Riley Keough set to play flirty farm girl on 'Riverdale' season 3
Riley Keough had earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing the role of a call girl, Christine, on the first season of the Starz anthology drama just last year.
There's a new flirt machine in the town of Riverdale, and it could put all hardcore 'Bughead' and 'Varchie' shippers in major trouble. Why? Simple. Riley Keough of 'The Girlfriend Experience' has been signed aboard to join the cast of the CW drama, 'Riverdale's upcoming season 3, and she's going to play an 'all American farm girl' who will potentially end up turning both Archie and Jughead's heads after offering them a simple favor.
The Vulture broke the news of Keough joining the gang as Laurie Lake, who will at one point of the show, take Archi and Jughead in one night when the two boys are in need of shelter. The three will share a “warm and possibly flirtatious" vibe that will eventually end up with Archie and Jughead getting involved in “more danger than they could have imagined.” How classic 'Riverdale'!
But there's also an adorable aww-worthy undertone lying in the casting of Keough on the popular teen-drama. What most people don't know is that, not so long ago, Keough herself had voluntarily lobbied for a role on 'Riverdale.' Taking to Twitter, Keough had written: "I just want to be cast in 'Riverdale.'" And that too, just back in March this year itself; so we guess it's official - dreams really do come true!
Speaking of dreams coming true, just last year, Keough had earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing the role of a call girl, Christine, on the first season of the Starz anthology drama, 'The Girlfriend Experience.' In the past, she has also starred opposite Al Pacino in the HBO docudrama Paterno, which had aired back in April. Her most recent film appearances include 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' 'American Honey' and 'Logan Lucky.'
Arriving earlier today was yet another interesting piece of news about 'Riverdale' casting. Reportedly, '13 Reasons Why' actress Katherine Langford was almost cast in the CW show in the role of Betty Cooper. Riverdale's current Veronica, Camila Mendes, spilled the information to Entertainment Weekly saying how Langford had auditioned for the role that eventually went to Lili Reinhart, but during the process, Mendes had met Langford. "I remember we went out and we got falafel with a guy who was auditioning for Archie," Mendes told EW, recalling the time.
It's kind of interesting to imagine a brunette Betty, but as of now, all we really have to look forward to is whether Keough's flirty persona on the screen creates some real clashes between the ongoing power couples on Riverdale. The show returns with its third season on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c.
