Spoilers for 'The Resident' Season 4 Episode 2

In Season 4 Episode 2 'Mina's Kangaroo Court' we see Barret Cain's (Morris Chestnut) patient who had elective surgery come back with complications. While that is horrible enough, Cain thinks he didn't do anything wrong by allowing the patient to go through surgery during the Covid-19 pandemic. AJ Austin (Malcolm-Jamal Warner) on the other hand believes that the surgery was not urgent. Turns out that the patient must have contracted the virus during the surgery and AJ couldn't help but confront Cain, let's just say that fans were both happy and disappointed.

"No Cain did NOT come at AJ with this bullcrap about not being down for the culture? This pendejo ... since when has Cain ever given a damn about repping Black culture? #TheResident," wrote one fan. Another added, "Cain really pulled on Black solidarity to keep AJ from reporting his ass. I cannot. As if Cain's behavior doesn't affect every Black and Brown person who comes after him. #TheResident"

The fans have been waiting on AJ and Mina to become a couple, but it seems that Mina Okafor (Shaunette Renée Wilson) wants Cain out because he's dangerous and she believes that he shouldn't be allowed to practice surgery. Meanwhile, AJ isn't quite ready to snitch on Cain. "Mina and AJ can’t have a work issue affect their relationship. #TheResident," wrote one fan considering the couple are just starting to get together. "This is gonna be a problem for AJ and Mina. #TheResident," wrote another fan.

We all know that Cain is, in fact, very egoistic and knows how to play his cards, but he's also an absolutely brilliant surgeon. So, we don't know what the end result will be. Toward the end of the episode, the patient goes into further complications and Cain attempts a scary procedure that he hasn't done before. Mina isn't okay with it, but AJ didn't want to stop Cain because the patient would have died. Of course, Cain ended up saving the patient's life. But, Mina is mad at AJ who believes that "systematic racism" explains Cain's behavior.

Turns out that Mina and AJ are now starring at an obstacle in their relationship. AJ tells Mina that it's his decision if he wants to report Cain or not and when Mina asks him "Are you asking me as my colleague or my boyfriend?", AJ says "It doesn't matter." Oh, but it really does matter. "I'm Team Mina on this one. Even if it costs them the relationship they've barely started. #TheResident," wrote one fan. Another added, "Can someone check on the writers of @ResidentFOX They obviously are not okay!! Never thought AJ would stand up for Cain #TheResident."

Turns out that the duo are going to take a "break" for three days to reconsider each other actions. So maybe a breakup isn't in the future? On a much happier note, Conrad and Nic are pregnant. So, the next episodes will be pure happiness for at least one couple.

Season 4 of 'The Resident' airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm EST on Fox.
