'Reality Z' is a knockoff of 'Dead Set', complain upset viewers: 'They even got the shaky cam what the f**k'

Spoilers for 'Reality Z' Season 1

Netflix's first-ever Brazillian zombie horror 'Reality Z' just dropped and despite director Cláudio Torres explicitly noting it is a reboot of Charlie Brooker's 'Dead Set', the 10-part series has viewers outraged that it's a 'knockoff' even though the original is also already on the streaming platform.

The Brazillian reboot follows Brooker's original in the first five episodes, showcasing a zombie attack that hits Rio de Janeiro, and soon the only shelter to resort to is the impenetrable studio of the reality show 'Olympus: The House of Gods'. It's a classic 'Celebrity Big Brother'-esque concept and much like Brooker's series, sees the participants of the show first seeking refuge in the building, and soon falling prey to the zombies taking over. In the latter half of the series, however, Torres' story becomes original as we see survivors from the outside make a hideout out of the studio.

Soon there's rampant politics, charged with sexual tension, minimal nudity, and the much-needed drama that makes the core of reality TV. One of the survivors is a Congressman, and soon outside forces with arms and ammunition threaten them. In the end, one of the rebels in our team of good guys lets the zombies in, with a preachy message asking future generations to be better at being human.

The drastic drift comes with several ambitious twists that Brooker's other horror brainchild 'Black Mirror' is famous for, but still is an original story. It is not, however, enough to convince viewers though. Taking it to Twitter, fans of 'Dead Set' expressed their distaste in the Brazilian remake, with one user complaining: "Hey @netflix if you're gonna have a knockoff of a show... maybe don't have the original show on your platform? Reality Z is clearly a modern knockoff of Dead Set."

The angry fan of the original was followed by viewers mildly shocked and utterly surprised that a Brazilian show would dare attempt the task of remaking the original. "Oh my god did you know there's a Brazilian remake of Dead Set, the zombie Big Brother show, on Netflix called Reality Z??!!," enthused one on Twitter. Another however wasn't as pleased. "Reality Z on Netflix is literally a remake of 2008 Dead Set but in Spanish. LOL wtf?" they asked.

Noting the bold attempt made by Torres, another viewer tweeted: "Reality z - Brazilian version of dead set HAHHAHA THEY EVEN GOT THE SHAKY CAM WHAT THE F**K." They weren't the only critic of the resemblances, as another viewer wrote: "netflix have made a rip off of Dead Set (that big brother zombie thing) called Reality Z. Legit in the trailer there is a scene which is a direct copy like bruh what?"

All episodes of 'Reality Z' are available from June 10 only on Netflix.
