'Reacher' Ending Explained: Will Season 2 be based on 'Die Trying', the second Jack Reacher novel?

What happened in 'Reacher' Season 1?

The story for the first season of 'Reacher' is based on the first instalment of the novel by Lee Child, titled 'Killing Floor'. When the first season of the series served as a faithful adaptation of the series, it also did add some changes to adapt the story for the TV screenplay for the series. One example is the increase in the importance of the roles of Finlay and Roscoe. Season One focuses on the titular Jack Reacher, a former US military officer, who visits the fictional town of Margrave, Georgia. Reacher gets arrested for murder. After he is released, Reacher teams up with Finlay and Conklin, only to find out about the corruption among the power elites, starting from the police officers, politicians and the businessmen in town. The finale of season 1 showed Reacher just before he is about to leave the town, Reacher visits the diner from the first episode and tastes that peach pie. Reacher says his goodbye to Finley and has a nice, heartfelt conversation. Both share their struggle, leading the duo to bond further. Reacher is then seen finding Joe's resting place and burying his grandfather's medal. The medal was given to Reacher by his mother as his grandfather got it 'for bravery in the face of danger'. We finally see Jack going his own way, leaving the town behind.

What can we expect from 'Reacher' Season 2?

As Prime Video has greenlit another season of 'Reacher', fans have been eager to know about the 'next chapter' of the series. As the first season followed the story of the first novel, many assumed the second season would draw from the second novel. But to everyone's surprise, Season 2 of 'Reacher' skips several books and adapts the eleventh book, titled, 'Bad Luck and Trouble'. 'Bad Luck and Trouble' was published in 2007 and the plotline of the book goes something like this. A man with both of his legs broken is thrown out of a corporate helicopter in the California desert. After seventeen days, Jack Reacher is travelling with no strings attached except for his ATM card. He receives a deposit of $1,030.00 from an anonymous account that sends Reacher to investigate. Reacher deduces the amount to be a military code, 10–30, which signals any close allies for urgent help. This sends Reacher on yet another adventure that is bigger than he expects.

Although there is no official release date set for the upcoming season, the second season sees Alan Ritchson, reprising the titular role and Nick Santora as the showrunner. But the show's official Instagram account did release a set picture to assure fans that shooting is on track.

Season 1 of 'Reacher' is available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
