'Reacher' Season 2: 5 things you need to know about thriller starring Alan Ritchson

Although there is no official announcement from Amazon that Season 2 of 'Reacher' has been greenlit, the success means its a matter of time

Following 'Jack Reacher' and the sequel, 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back', there was a bit of a wait to see what the promising action franchise could come up with next. Both flicks raked in the moolah but were critically panned. 'Reacher' rights those mistakes in the form of a series starring 'Titans' star Alan Ritchson who's taken over Tom Cruise from the films. For starters, he fits the bill of Lee Child's gargantuan sherlock with a fist that can do the talking as well.

Season 1 is comprised of eight episodes and is based on the first book, 'Killing Floor'. For those who haven't read the book, it's neat, pacy, and compelling — things the series nails. It starts off with Reacher alighting the bus at Margrave, Georgia only to be arrested as a suspect for murder. The series, safe to say, is crisp and just adds to the string of successful thrillers — 'Jack Ryan', 'Bosch' and 'Hannah' that Amazon Prime Video houses.

Ahead of a potential 'Reacher' Season 2, here's what we know so far.

Release date

Although there is no official announcement from Amazon Prime Video that Season 2 of 'Reacher' has been greenlit, the success and the positive reviews suggest that it is a matter of time before we hear news of a potential second installment. Expect to drop late in the year or early 2023.

What is 'Reacher' Season 2 all about?

Those familiar with the books will know 'Die Trying', the second novel by Lee Child in the 26 Jack Ryan books. We're inclined to agree with the folks from Digital Spy who share the same thoughts that we do. Considering that the pilot series began with the first novel, what if season 2 takes the second book with another eight-episode series.

Fair that there would be ample mix and match, but rest assured that there is a Season 2 incoming although there is no official confirmation made by the streaming platform. 'Reacher' ends on a solid note and also has closure. This is very much a template that even John Krasinki's 'Jack Ryan' followed. The second season had a new plotline and expect the same from 'Reacher'.

Considering how the finale ended, expect only Alan Ritchson to return as the titular character. This was the case in the movies as well with only Tom Cruise returning as Jack Reacher. Rosamund Pike and Cobie Smulders were the key characters in the first and second movies respectively and the series will pretty much follow the same template.

Showrunner

Nick Santora serves as the showrunner and executive producer of the show along with Lee Child, Scott Sullivan, Don Granger, Christopher McQuarrie, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross. Expect the same to return behind the lens for a new season.

There is no official trailer for 'Reacher' 2, however, watch this space for updates.
