In 2019, it may seem like movies and television programs are inundated with superheroes but Netflix is bringing a new kind of superhero show to its service in 2019. 'Raising Dion', created by Dennis Liu, tells the story of Nicole Reese, an African-American single-mom raising her 7-year old son, Dion, who has multiple, constantly changing superpowers. As Nicole strives to keep her son’s powers secret, she also helps him learn and control his powers with the help of Pat, Dion’s late father Mark’s best friend.
Release Date
The show completed filming in early 2019 and the ten episodes will be released on October 4 on Netflix.
Plot
Raising Lion is based on the short film and comic book of the same name written and directed by Dennis Liu in 2015. During a romantic getaway at a cabin to see the northern lights, Mark and Nicole witness a flashy streak from the sky hit the ground close to them. As they go to investigate, Mark is engulfed by the light and Nicole is knocked out. They return to the cabin and continue with their romantic getaway. However, the next morning, Mark notices his body glowing weirdly. In the days after the getaway, Mark grows distant and Nicole discovers she is pregnant.
The show is expected to navigate Nicole’s endeavors at raising her son and keeping him safe while figuring out the origin of his abilities.
