'Radioactive': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Amazon Prime biopic on Marie Curie

The biographical film titled 'Radioactivity' first aired on September 14, 2019, at the Toronto International Film Festival, and was set to make it Amazon Studios release before April 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film is now set to release late July and will bring to life the documentation of the life of physicist, chemist, and scientist Marie Sklodowska-Curie - her scientific discoveries and her romantic escapades. Audiences also see other members of Curie's life such as husband and research partner Pierre Curie and Aneurin Barnard, her colleague with whom she had an affair with. Not to mention we also see her brilliance in the field of radioactivity such as her discovering the elements polonium and radium. This would be the fourth biopic of Curie, others include 'Madame Curie' (1943) and 'Les Palmes de M. Schutz' (1997). Here is what we know of the upcoming Amazon Prime release of 'Radioactivity.'

'Radioactive' will release on July 24, 2020.

Plot

The official synopsis reads, "The official plot of Radioactive reads: “In the male-dominated society of late 19th century Paris, Marie is a fiercely passionate scientist, who struggles to progress her ground-breaking research, despite her obvious brilliance. After joining forces with fellow scientist and future husband, Pierre Curie, they take her exploration of radioactivity forward, discovering not one, but two new elements: radium and polonium. The genius of the Curies’ discoveries and the ensuing Nobel prize propels the devoted couple into the international limelight. But after a tragic accident, Marie must continue to advance her work alone resulting in revolutionary discoveries that have dramatic consequences for the modern world.”

Pike has been a part of a lot of recent notable productions, but most may remember her from 'Gone Girl' (2014) where she played the role of Amy Dunne. Her other roles that she is recognized for include her roles as Miranda Frost from 'Die Another Day' (2002), as Jane Bennet in 'Pride and Prejudice' (2005), Helen from 'Jack Reacher' (2012) and Louise in 'State of the Union' (2019).

Anya-Josephine Taylor-Joy  is an English-Argentine actress best known for her roles as Thomasin in the period horror film The Witch (2015), as Casey Cooke in the horror-thriller film Split (2016), and as Lily in the black comedy thriller film Thoroughbreds (2018). Taylor-Joy has been the recipient of the Cannes Film Festival's Trophée Chopard and was nominated for the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

Other members of the cast include Yvette Feuer as Carla, Simon Russell Beale as Professor Lippmann, Sian Brooke as Bronia Sklodowska, Drew Jacoby as Loie Fuller, Harriet Turnbull as Young Marie and many more.

The film was directed by Marjane Satrapi with Jack Thorne and Lauren Redniss serving as writers.The film is produced by the team behind Atonement and Darkest Hour.
