Arriving as a mid-January treat to fans, the show brings back the notorious murderer 'The Surgeon' and his titular son who struggles under the fear of turning into his father. 'Prodigal Son' premieres with Season 2 on Tuesday, January 12. The first episode of Season 2 titled 'It's All in the Execution' will air at 10 pm on FOX, with newer episodes to roll out weekly, same time, on Tuesdays.
Plot
According to the official synopsis given by FOX, the first two episodes will see Malcolm Bright's personal life in utter disarray after his sister's shocking actions. He must take care of her and also protect his mother from a secret that could tear the family apart all over again. And that's just Episode 1, where Malcolm must also find a killer. The second episode titled 'Speak of the Devil', focuses more on Malcolm and Gil Arroyo's relationship as a priest is found murdered in his place of worship, leading Malcolm to grapple with its effect on his own trauma. His sister Ainsley grows worried that their mother Jessica is keeping something from her regarding her relationship with Gil. Will all hell break loose so early on in the season?
Cast
English actor Tom Payne plays the role of Malcolm Bright/Whitly, a disgraced fired FBI aged turned NYPD cop. Michael Sheen stars as his sociopath murderer father Martin Whitly, aka 'The surgeon'. Lou Diamond Phillips plays Gil Arroyo, Malcolm's surrogate father who gives him a job at NYPD and pursues a relationship with his mother. Halston Sage plays his sister Ainsley Whitly and Bellamy Young plays their mother Jessica Whitly. The cast also includes Aurora Perrineau as Det. Dani Powell, Frank Harts as Det. JT Tarmel, and Keiko Agena as Dr Edrisa Tanaka.
Creator
The acclaimed American drama comes from creators Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver for the Fox Broadcasting Company. Fedak's other credits include 'Deception' for ABC, on which Sklaver was a writer and consulting producer.
