'Playmobil: The Movie': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about the animated comedy

The adventures of siblings Marla and Charlie through the Playmobil world has a 'Lego Movie' vibe and is inspired by the Playmobil brand of toys

Based on the German building toy Playmobil, 'Playmobil: The Movie' is an English, French animated comedy. It had been released in France on August 7, 2019, by Pathé in the UK on August 9, 2019, on studio Canal UK and is set to release in the US in early December by STXfilms.

Release date

The animated comedy will make its US debut on December 6, 2019.

Plot

Marla, no more a free-spirited girl has become overprotective of her brother Charlie who has disconnected from the outside world following the death of their parents. Charlie who sneaks out to a toy museum to visit a Playmobil exhibit gets transported to the Playmobil world with his sister.

From a Viking batter to pirate kidnappings, this has a touch of 'The Lego Movie' engraved in its storyline comparison. On a mission to find Charlie who's been kidnapped, Marla meets a number of characters such as a secret agent and Emperor Maximus on her quest through this world of adventure.

Cast

The film stars the voices of Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Bateman, Adam Lambert, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor, and Daniel Radcliffe.

Anya Taylor-Joy is known for her excellent performance in 'The Witch' (2015) and went on to star in 'Morgan' (2016). Most know her from her headliner role in  M. Night Shyamalan's horror-thriller film 'Split' (2016).

Jim Gaffigan is known for landing an appearance on the 'Late Show with David Letterman' (1993). He went on to guest-star on well-known TV shows such 'That '70s Show' (1998), 'Sex and the City' (1998), 'Third Watch' (1999), 'Ed' (2000) and 'Law & Order' (1990).

Creators

The film is directed by Lino DiSalvo — his directorial debut, and is written by Blaise Hemingway, Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. It is produced by On Animation Studios.
