LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO has been pulling up the big guns ever since 'Game of Thrones' prequel series, 'House of the Dragon' dropped which made a milestone for itself because of the viewership. However, the post-apocalyptic drama tv series, 'The Last of Us' has set altogether a new high surpassing 'House of the Dragon's viewership records. The Pedro Pascal starring series is based on the 2013 video game of the same name developed by Naughty Dog. The series is set in 2023, twenty years into a global pandemic caused by a mass fungal infection, which forces its hosts to transform into zombie-like creatures and collapse society.

Regardless, after its premiere on January 15, the series received acclaim from critics, who praised the performances, writing, production design, and score; several called it the best live-action adaptation of a video game. Furthermore, apart from Pedro Pascal the series also stars Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Speaking of the cast, guest stars include Nico Parker as Joel's daughter Sarah, Gabriel Luna as Joel's younger brother Tommy, Merle Dandridge as resistance leader Marlene, and Anna Torv as Joel's smuggler partner Tess.

HBO's 'The Last of Us' reaching new viewership heights

'The Last Of Us' officially hit the Nielsen streaming charts for the week of January 16 to January 22 with 837 million minutes viewed at number 6 on the chart. It overshadows the viewership for HBO's other talked about hit series, 'House of the Dragon,' in the same interval. Although, Nielsen's measurement window was closed, it did note that in just those few hours, the Pedro Pascal-led series accumulated 223 million viewing minutes. On the other hand, 'House of the Dragon' amassed 741 million minutes viewed in the same two-episode-circumstances.

Netflix

On the other hand, Netflix dominated the top of the Nielsen charts for the week, with 'Ginny & Georgia' drawing 1.8 billion minutes viewed and taking the top spot. It may be all the "peach" drama that the audience love. That is not all, it was one of three programs to generate over 1 billion viewing minutes for the streaming giant. The others were 'That ’90s Show' with 1.6 billion and 'The Walking Dead' with 1.1 billion.

Regardless, the Pedro Pascal starred series has renewed for a second season in January 2023. The series has released five episodes until now, last being the 'Endure and Survive,' which leaves the audience with four more new episodes to watch until the second season.
