'Normal People': Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about the adaptation of Sally Rooney novel
Sally Rooney's debut novel 'Conversations with Friends' certainly sparked a few conversations, but it was her second book, 'Normal People', which created waves among readers, especially Instagram-savvy millennials.
'Normal People' saw Rooney getting longlisted for both the Man Booker Prize for Fiction as well as the Women's Prize for Fiction, and also saw her winning the Costa Book Award for Best Novel.
Never before had millennials felt so seen by a writer who was making rounds in the awards circuit, and now thanks to Hulu and BBC, fans of the novel can soon watch the adaptation, which is certain to introduce more people to Sally Rooney's works.
Release date
All 12 episodes of the season will be released on Hulu on April 29.
Plot
Set in Ireland, 'Normal People' follows the friendship and relationship between Marianne and Connell. It is set in the 2000s downturn period, when graduating millennials realized that the 2008 economic crisis meant really bad things for them.
Connell is a popular, handsome, and highly intelligent high schooler who begins a relationship with unpopular, intimidating and intelligent Marianne, whose parents employ his mother as a cleaner. Connell and Marianne begin a secret relationship in school, which then reconciles when the two attend Trinity College in Dublin.
Going through the ups and downs of the relationship, 'Normal People' tells the story of two people who develop an intense relationship that even they find too much to deal with.

Daisy Edgar-Jones
Daisy Edgar-Jones is a British actress known for her work in 'Gentleman Jack', 'War of the Worlds' and 'Cold Feet'. In 'Normal People', she plays the role of Marianne, the female lead of the show. Marianne is lonely, proud and intensely private who finds herself irresistibly drawn to Connell.
Paul Mescal
Paul Mescal is an Irish actor who will play Connell in 'Normal People' in his first television role. Connell is the son of Marianne's housekeeper. Though Connell and Marianne don't talk to each other in school, he finds himself drawn to her when he visits her home to pick his mother up.
The show also stars Sarah Greene as Lorraine, India Mullen as Peggy, Desmond Eastwood as Niall, Fionn O'Shea as Jamie, Eanna Hardwicke as Rob, Sebastian de Souza as Gareth, Kwaku Fortune as Philip and Eliot Salt as Joanna.
