'Night Sky': Who is Stella and can she stop being a Guardian?
'Night Sky' is the latest sci-fi series landing on Amazon Prime Video. Written by Holden Miller, the series depicts Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons as Irene and Franklin York, an elderly couple whose rural Illinois home contains a mysterious chamber that teleports people to an extraterrestrial observation room on an unknown planet.
The eight-episode series focuses on the York household who struggle to find joy in their lives after the unfortunate death of their son Michael. In addition to the story of Franklin and Irene, there is a parallel story about single mother Stella (Julieta Zylberberg) and her daughter Toni (Rocio Hernandez) who have their own secrets.

Episode 2 ‘La Capila’ introduces Stella and her daughter Toni who are shown to live in an isolated place in Argentina. Toni is a normal teenager, who doesn’t have any friends or social life. Stella is the gatekeeper to an alien portal, which is hidden under a church on her farmland. Toni is not aware of her mother’s real identity and Stella deliberately never shares any secrets with her daughter. All of that changes when they are visited by Stella’s boss Cornelius (Piotr Adamczyk) who assigns her a mission. Stella’s mission is to kill Jude (Chai Hansen), who lives with Irene and Franklin.
As the series progress, we learn that Stella and Cornelius are Guardians. The Guardians are a cult community who are protecting a secret and if any members try to escape or reveal their identity, they will be hunted down and killed. Their duty is to safeguard alien chambers scattered across the world. In the flashbacks scenes with Stella's father and her cult upbringing, it is implied that Toni will also be a Guardian and it is a family oath that will continue forever.
Once Toni learns about her mother's real identity and the evil doings of the Guardians, she decides to convince her mother to break ties with the community. Even though Stella was adamant about fulfilling her duty, Toni opens her eyes to redemption. In the end, Stella makes the brave decision to break all ties with the community and leave Jude alone. However, she attacks Cornelius instead and kidnaps him.
The mother and daughter decide to start a new life where they will be free of the influence of the Guardians. With Cornelius tied up in the van, they head into an unknown path. Unfortunately in the final moments of the last episode, their van is attacked and the trio are captured by another mysterious group.
