Netflix SUED over 'Outer Banks' as novelist claims streamer ripped off book
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It is not a secret that the most popular streaming giant, Netflix has a vast range of content. Speaking of content, the action-adventure mystery teen drama streaming television series, 'Outer Banks' has stood out to be a problematic reason for Netflix although the third season of the series which premiered this year, did exceptionally well. Back in February, Netflix’s band of 'Pogue's dominated the Top 10 chart as the most viewed title during the Feb. 20-26 viewing window as Season 3 of 'Outer Banks' debuted atop the English-Language TV chart with 154.97 million hours viewed. The series also took up the No. 4 and No. 7 spots on the list as fans revisited Seasons 1 (35.1 million hours viewed) and Season 2 (23.86 million hours viewed) ahead of Season 3’s Feb. 23 premiere.
In the Netflix series, we see Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara Carrera, Jonathan Daviss as Pope Heyward, Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron, Austin North as Topper Thornton, Nicholas Cirillo as Barry. Given what happens in the Season 3 finale, we shouldn’t expect Charles Halford to return as Big John, nor Charles Esten as Ward Cameron.

'Outer Banks is a ripoff'
TMZ recently reported that Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke's 2020 series is the reason why Netflix is being sued. Apparently, Jeff Wilson has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Netflix as he alleges that their highly-popular teen drama draws way too many similarities to a book he published in 2013 titled 'Queen Anne's Revenge'. Furthermore, the outlet also reported the legal documents obtained by the site Wilson claims the novel he published follows four friends on a treasure hunt from a famous shipwreck near the outer banks of North Carolina much like the plot of the series. Additionally, Wilson also believes that the main cast of the series and their character arcs are nearly identical to the book even going as far as to say that the plot points and settings are also very similar.
Accusations against teen drama
This is not the first time that Netflix has been accused of ripping off the concept for 'Outer Banks' as independently-published author K.W. Wooten sued Netflix and the creators of 'Outer Banks' for 'stealing' the plot of their teen drama, which started streaming on April 15. However, the suit was later dismissed after a judge did not find sufficient enough similarities between the two works.
In February 2023, ahead of the third season premiere, the series was renewed for a fourth season, so fret not as the series will come out with a fourth season.
