'The Stranded': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know about Netflix's original Thai series
Thai entertainment is unique in its own way. After some of the most powerful action movies and epic sagas from some of the industry’s finest, it's time for the country to expand its content expertise through web series.
With Netflix launching its first original Thai web series, we can expect a very different style of entertainment experience.
Release Date
'The Stranded' or 'Kweng' (Thai) is all set to premiere on Netflix on Friday, November 15, 2019.
Plot
The mystery-thriller series follows 37 students of an elite private school who are left stranded on a remote island on the Andaman Sea after a huge tsunami hits the island.
It follows the story of 18-year-old Kraam, a tsunami survivor and what his friends go through when they are abandoned in the middle of nowhere.
As a series of mysterious events start happening around them on the island, each of the teenagers' lives start to get affected and they seek escape. With no one to rescue them, the kids will have to find their own way out of the island if they want to survive.
Cast
'The Stranded' stars some of the popular faces of Thailand's entertainment business, like Sinjai Plengpanich, Sarunyoo and Hattaya Wongkrachang, along with Winai Kraibutr, Beam-Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote, Pat-Chayanit Chansangavej, March-Chutavuth Pattarakampol, Jack-Kittisak Patomburana, and Oab-Oabnithi Wiwattanawarang, among many others.
Rising actor Beam-Papangkorn Lerkchaleampote, plays the lead role of 18-year-old Kraam in the series. He has earlier worked in 'Project S the Series' (2017).
Sinjai is a known Thai actor, known for 'Love of Siam' (2007), 'Air America' (1990) and 'Plae kao' (2014), while Hattaya Wongkrajang is known for 'Project S the Series' (2017) and 'Bangkok Love Stories: Plead' (2019).
The English voiceovers are done by Michelle Fang, Nicole Fong, Darren Keilan for the lead roles of Noey, May, and Kraam respectively.
Showrunner
The mystery series is a collaboration between GMM Grammy and H2L Media Group, and is directed by Sophon Sakdaphisit ('Shutter') and Oscar nominee Gary Levinsohn ('Saving Private Ryan'), Laddaland and Puen.
'Tee Raluek' ('The Promise') director Jim-Sophon Sakdaphisit. Ekachai Uekrongtham, Gary Levinsohn, Christian Durso, Steven Sims and Billy Hines serve as executive producers on the show.
