'Operation Hyacinth' tells the true story of Polish communist police carrying out an operation in 1980s to track all the homosexuals in the country
Netflix has doubled its efforts in expanding its reach over the years and has successfully become the market leader. So, it comes in as no surprise that the platform has been treating viewers with extraordinary content from around the world. That’s one of the main reasons why Netflix has become such a rage among viewers.
International shows like ‘Post Mortem: No One Dies in Skarnes’, ‘Who Killed Sara?’ and ‘Lupin’ have been immensely successful and encouraged the organization to invest more in foreign projects. One such project that’s going to be included in Netflix’s international catalog is ‘Operation Hyacinth’. The upcoming Polish film is based on a true story that took place in the 1980s and unearths the truth about the mass operation taken by the Polish communist police to track homosexuals in the country.
According to reports, the operation was conducted to create a national database of all Polish homosexuals and people who were in touch with them. A total of 11,000 were registered on that list. The story seems to be really intriguing and it will be interesting to see how Polish police carried out the entire operation. Here’s everything we know about the police.
Release date and how to watch
The upcoming Polish film will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Wednesday, October 13. According to the Netflix press site, the movie will be available for streaming at 3:01 am EST. Viewers can download the Netflix from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store.
“Operation Hyacinth is a thriller story set in Poland in the '80s. Robert, a young policeman of principals, finds a serial killer who is going after gay men. In the course of the investigation, he meets Arek. Robert decides to use him as an informant, not realizing how much this relationship will affect not only his work but also his personal life.”
The movie features an amazing star cast. Tomasz Zietek plays the lead role of Robert while Hubert Milkowski will be portraying the character of Arek. On the other hand, actors Adrianna Chlebicka and Marek Kalita will be playing the roles of Halinka and Edward, respectively.
Other actors to make an appearance in the movie include Tomasz Schuchardt (Wojtek), Sebastian Stankiewicz (Maciek), Agnieszka Suchora (Ewa), and Piotr Trojan (Kamil).
The movie is helmed by Polish actor and director Piotr Domalewski, who won the Best Film accolade at this year’s Polish Film Festival. He has won over 25 awards at different film festivals around the world and has been praised for his storytelling.
On the other hand, the screenplay is penned by Marcin Ciaston. Joanna Szymaska is producing the movie along with Tomasz Morawski and Krystyna Kantor.
