NCT Sungchan’s 'Inkigayo' MC role ends, fans console: 'My jobless rock star'

While fans are not too happy about the upcoming sub-unit NCT Hollywood, they continue to love new members that get added to NCT. In 2018, Jungwoo, Lucas, and Kun were accepted with open arms and fans loved the WayV members that were introduced in 2019. They practically adopted Shotaro and Sungchan as they became the newest members of NCT in 2020. Unfortunately, since they do not have a fixed sub-unit, it has become increasingly difficult for fans to see them unless NCT has a full group comeback.

Since there are 23 members, SM Entertainment has divided NCT into fixed sub-units so each member is active and gets a fair amount of lines and screentime. However, Shotaro and Sungchan still haven’t been given a sub-unit. They do get busy once in a while as both had solo magazine photoshoots with the likes of Vogue and Allure. Sungchan was also roped in by skincare brand Dr.G and became the ambassador for M Clean. Fans rejoiced when his first long-term gig happened to be hosting the music show 'Inkigayo'.

Sungchan’s only long-time gig ends

Unfortunately, Sungchan’s contract as a host for the music show is about to come to an end in April. He was hosting 'Inkigayo' along with Treasure’s Jihoon and IVE’s Yujin. They will be replaced by TXT’s Yeonjun and actors Roh Jeong-eui and Seo Bum-jun. The music show is broadcast every Sunday on SBS, which means that starved NCT fans would at least get a weekly appearance from Sungchan.

However, with his role as an MC ending, he doesn’t have any long-term gig at the moment which has fans urging SM to quickly give him a sub-unit so that he can be active as an artist. It should be noted that since 2020, he has only had two comebacks. In the last comeback, he wasn’t even part of the lineup of the ones performing the title track ‘Universe (Let’s Play Ball)’ and did not get to perform and promote ‘Beautiful’ on music shows or variety shows.

'Wait for him to get a fixed unit'

While fans made hilarious memes about Sungchan being jobless, they also hoped the label would give him another gig, with one fan saying, “Dude sungchan will be jobless again SM give him and shotaro a group now.”

Another said, “Nctzens trending sungchan jobless acting like they CARED about when sungchan had jobs didnt you said shit sbout him having a sponsorship being an ambassador and a solo magazine cover.”

One NCTzen tweeted, “NO WAYYYYY ARE WE GOING TO SAY GOODBYE TO MC SUNGCHAN??? HE IS JOBLESS😭 AT LEAST WAIT FOR HIM TO GET A FIXED UNIT.” Another posted, “Sungchan my jobless rock star.”

One tried to look at the bright side, “No but sungchan being jobless now means unit debut soon.” Another fan said, “Now what sungchan content will we rely on …” One NCTzen said, “I will never forgive SM Entertainment for not giving Sungchan a unit and a chance to perform in Inkigayo while he was the MC.”
