'NCIS: Sydney': Hit CBS franchise heads overseas, will drop in 2023 with Aussie actors

The Australian edition of the popular cop series is all set to launch in 2023 after a deal was made between Paramount Plus Australia and Network Ten

The great American cop drama 'NCIS' is set to launch in Australia with local stories and Australian actors on board. 'NCIS: Sydney' will be the series' first-ever international edition and has already garnered appreciation from its fans worldwide. Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President ViacomCBS Australia, and New Zealand Beverley McGarvey said in a statement to TV Tonight, "We are thrilled to welcome the inaugural international series of NCIS to Australian shores."

The cop series is set to launch in 2023 after a deal was made between Paramount Plus Australia and Network Ten. "It is such a privilege to be able to continue the legacy of such a wonderful show and incorporate the superior NCIS storytelling while introducing new Australian characters and locations. We can't wait to get production underway," McGarvey said in his statement.

'NCIS Hawai'i': When will Episode 14 air and what to expect when it returns?

The announcement just comes after 'NCIS' was renewed for season 19 with star Mark Harmon returning as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Fans just can't get enough of the drama series which is ranked as TV's most-watched series and attracts an average of 12 million viewers per episode. The previous two seasons were abruptly cut short due to the Covid pandemic and were discontinued. However, it is still unclear about the number of episodes to be released in season 19 of this cop drama.

The Australian telecommunication network was just excited to express their happiness for the upcoming series. Angela Bishop on Studio 10 said, “'NCIS' as we all know, is one of the world’s most successful TV dramas, ranking as the number one US TV drama franchise globally. 'NCIS', 'NCIS Los Angeles' and 'NCIS New Orleans' have been seen in more than 200 markets worldwide and 'NCIS' won the international audience award as the most-watched TV series."

"It is absolutely huge news that they will now be an 'NCIS: Sydney' the first series to be set and filmed outside the US. Production is going to commence later this year and it’s going to be filmed against our awe-inspiring, panoramic, and spectacular backdrop of one of the world’s most breathtaking harbor cities, Sydney. The fact that it’s a harbor city is important for the whole Navy part of it,” she said.

Just a few more seasons and this show will eventually edge out as the Television's longest-running show in the 'Law & Order' franchise. The current titleholder is 'Law & Order: SVU' which is going on 23 seasons. There have been no cast announcements yet, but the decision will be taken very soon. The series is going to launch locally on Network 10 and Paramount+ but it’s also going to play internationally on Paramount+ from next year.
