NBC hit 'Smash' headed to Broadway as Steven Spielberg-produced musical

A decade after the Emmy-winning show was released, it is all set for a new incarnation on Broadway

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Musical fans, gather around! Because one of the most amazing musical sitcoms is about to go on Broadway. While several movies, like 'Mean Girls' and 'Beetlejuice', have taken over the stage successfully with their musicals, Steven Spielberg-backed NBC hit musical drama 'Smash' is getting ready to join the list. A decade after the Emmy-winning show was released, it is all set for a new incarnation on Broadway.

'Smash' ran for 2 seasons and it had an incredible ensemble including Debra Messing as Julia Houston, Jack Davenport as Derek Wills, Katharine McPhee as Karen Cartwright, Christian Borle as Tom Levitt, Megan Hilty as Ivy Lynn, Anjelica Huston as Eileen Rand, Jeremy Jordan as Jimmy Collins, Leslie Odom, Jr as Sam Strickland, Krysta Rodriguez as Ana Vargas, Andy Mientus as Kyle Bishop and Will Chase as Michael Swift.

'Smash' is Back

According to Collider, the beloved musical is set to take the center stage with most of the original makers of the show returning. The upcoming 'Smash' broadway show will be produced by the original producers of the show - Steven Spielberg, Robert Greenblatt, and Neil Meron. The music for the show is set to be done by the returning music composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The choreography is set to be taken care of by Joshua Bergasse, who did the choreography for the original show as well. 



 

New Music

The newer adaptation of 'Smash' is set to have a release in the year 2024-2025. Another interesting fact for the fans of the original show is that the music for the upcoming show is set to blend both the old and familiar songs as well as some creations. 'Smash' musical is said to be canon to the original show, and the storyline of the new musical is set to follow the 'Bombshell (musical)', which followed the story of Marilyn Monroe. The 'Bombshell (musical)' had two acts and is based on 'Smash'.

And to make this musical dream come true, a stack of talented people have been roped in for the creative section of the project. The musical is set to be directed by Tony winner Susan Stroman. The script is taken care of by Rick Elice and Bob Martin. While the official cast of the musical has not been confirmed yet, it is safe to assume that the musical will have talented folks on the cast.
