'American Song Contest': Tyler Braden's powerful vocal fails to match other finalists

A fan compared him with AleXa and said: 'AleXa *Drops down in throne and climbs stairway to drop off it* Tyler Braden "We have a bit of pyro I guess'

Tyler Braden's lack of visual spectacular may have been his downfall tonight, as his strong vocals paired with his guitar strings weren't enough to bring home the title. Tyler, who is known for his subtle style, delivered a wonderful and smooth flowing performance only to finish at the bottom of the points table.

Tyler Braden, a country music performer, did not win the inaugural season finale of NBC's "American Song Contest" tonight. However, he has still spent the previous six weeks rubbing elbows with hosts Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg, as well as the contestants, who include '90s music luminaries Jewel and Michael Bolton. Winning the show for Tennessee — a state with a long tradition of singer-songwriters — would have cemented Tyler's place as a representation of so many great performers who have come before him. Even though he didn't win, he can't consider fist-bumping Snoop Dogg as "an awesome, surreal moment" in a busy two months that also saw him marry his longtime fiancée, Marisa Taylor, in an intimate wedding with friends and family at Joshua Tree National Park last month.

Before his performance, Tyler speaks with Kelly Clarkson, one of the show's hosts, and expresses his gratitude for the opportunity to see how much talent exists across the country. He described it being awesome and says he has grown as a result of it. He also tells Kelly that he didn't want to do anything flashy aesthetically, but rather stay true to his performance by focusing just on the song. This could have been one of the reasons Tyler missed out on the title and finished last on the points table in the season finale.

Tyler Braden of Tennessee also had a spotless jury record after finishing first in their week three and week seven rankings. He was also the last surviving male country singer. He made no noticeable changes to his performance yet again, opting to keep it consistent for the sake of the track. While the other contenders went all out to put on a show, Tyler's performance lacked the oomph factor that would have had the crowd jumping out of their seats. Comparing his performance to his fellow competitor, AleXa's, one fan wrote on Twitter: "AleXa *Drops down in a throne and climbs a stairway to drop off it* Tyler Braden "We have a bit of pyro I guess" #AmericanSongContest".

In a similar context, another fan tweeted: "Tyler Braden watching AleXa #AmericanSongContest"

Some fans, though, came to his defense. One fan reprimanded the voters for not appreciating his song enough: "I’m not sure the basis of why people voted the way they did, but the fact that Tyler Braden finished last shows that #AmericanSongContest had literally nothing to do with the song itself. Dude is extremely talented and successful already. Can’t wait for more heaters from him"

Another fan complimented his vocals by saying: "If a person has 2 names they about to bring it. And Tyler Braden has been killing since day 1. His voice is so smooth you can feel the words in his vocal cords okay Tennessee. #AmericanSongContest"

After five heats and two semi-finals, the 'American Song Contest' grand final concludes with Alexa winning the title and Tyler finishing last.
