Single mother Kirsten from Fargo, North Dakota probably had one of the worst experiences in quarantine. She and her ex-fiancee had to shelter together when the pandemic hit making it one of the most uncomfortable experiences for her. Offering some consolation was this guy named Alex who reached out to her via Facebook and things escalated quickly between them. They set up an in-person date, however on the day they were supposed to meet he told her that he needs to fly back to Oklahoma to see his father who just suffered a stroke. A couple of days later, she finds a Snapchat message from him where he admitted being a catfish. Kirsten was ready to give him a chance if he'd tell her his real identity but he didn't reply back and deleted his Facebook account as well.

What's worrying was that Alex had compromising photos of her that she'd shared with him willingly when he asked for them. A couple of days later she moved ahead and started dating Ryan but that's when her best friend got a message from the person pretending to be Alex enquiring about how Kirsten's been doing. All this snooping around on the catfish's part was really confusing as well as scary for Kirsten.

Upon hearing the whole story from Kirsten, hosts Nev Schulman and Kamie Crawford begin their investigation. Bouncing off between the real Alex to Kirsten's ex-fiancee and her best friend Cassie yielded no significant results. They then decided to reach out to the person pretending to be Alex via Snapchat and the person was finally ready to reveal himself. Turns out it was her ex-boyfriend Tad's friend Justin who had asked Kirsten out before but she rejected him back then. Things ended very badly between Tad and Kirsten and none of his friends had her back, one of the reasons why she didn't trust Justin enough to go out with him.

Justin apologized for what happened years ago, however, Kirsten clarified that she doesn't feel romantically inclined towards him and that she's been dating someone already. Justin offered to delete the photos that he possessed of Kirsten as part of the apology and an update at the end revealed that he's still reeling from what he did to her and he's confident that he would never catfish anyone again.

'Catfish' airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on MTV.
