Over the past few years, Korean dramas have slowly been rising on the world stage, becoming more relevant and more popular — especially over the past year when many more people have turned over to Korean dramas for entertainment. And why wouldn't we? Most Korean dramas are just a season-long — whether they are 16 or 100 episodes long — which means that we don't necessarily have to wait to know if the show is renewed or be disappointed that it will end on a cliffhanger. With multiple plotlines and beautiful soundtracks, Korean dramas have inched their way into our hearts.

2021 will be no different and there are plenty of dramas lined up for your entertainment. One of the upcoming Korean dramas — 'Miss Montecristo' — may seem familiar, especially to fans of classic French literature. 'The Count of Monte Cristo' was no doubt a favorite novel for many — the tale of love, revenge, and drama is as endearing now as it was in the 19th century when the novel by Alexandre Dumas first came out. 'Miss Montecristo' will be a modern, gender-flipped retelling of the classic novel. Read on to know more about the show.

Release date

'Miss Montecristo' will premiere on KBS2 on Monday, February 15. The show will consist of 100 episodes and will air every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, with each episode being 30-minute long.

Plot

The official synopsis for 'Miss Montecristo' states: "A suspenseful revenge drama about a woman whose life was destroyed by the friends she trusted most. After making up her mind to take revenge on those who betrayed her, she returns to reclaim the life that was stolen from her."

Lee So-Yeon is said to portray the character of the tragic leading lady Gong Eun-Jo, a promising fashion designer who dreams of creating "joyful" clothing like her late father. She seems to be living a life full of contentment, however just as she begins to achieve success in her line of work as well as starting to build a beautiful love life, Gong Eun Jo's almost perfect life crumbles in a blink of an eye when her friends whom she trusts ends up betraying her.

Choi Yeo-Jin will be taking the role of Oh Ha-Ra, a woman with a wealthy background who is a chaebol heiress and a socialite. She will become Gong Eun Jo's rival. Her family background may not be normal as she is born from a chaebol's mistress, which caused her to have an inferiority complex. She is arrogant and known for being a troublemaker within her social circle.

The kindhearted Gong Eun-Jo is the only friend that Oh Ha-Ra trusts very much and she opens up her true feelings to Gong Eun-Jo. Unfortunately, their friendship falls apart when they get involved in a love triangle with a man.
