Who is Michel Boyd’s spouse?
Atlanta’s top design pro is currently not married to anyone. But the designer has ensured to keep his personal life well under wraps. Michel, who openly identifies as gay and is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, barely lets any details of his dating life out, choosing to remain a mystery. But the reality star has been vocal about the time he revealed his sexuality to his mother. In an interview, Michel once revealed that he finds his coming out story “slightly boring.” He had said, “I think my coming out story is slightly boring. I flew my mom to New York to spend some time with me. I really wanted her to see me when I said these words. I wanted her to be in front of me and to see the life I’ve created for myself in New York.” He added, “I wanted her to see I was in a healthy, stable, and basically traditional relationship. It just happened to be with a man. I wanted her to see that I was the same kid that she raised.” He elaborated on the stereotypes he faces hailing from a small town in the south, saying, “I had the same values. I just wanted her to understand that fully because when you’re from a small town, the stereotypes associated with being gay were not always positive.”
He continued, “So I brought her to New York and sat her down. At the time I had my own place and was living with my partner. We had a chat and I told her.” The designer stated that his mother claimed to “always have known.” He added, “She said she felt like she always knew, but wasn’t sure. She said that’s what had put the distance between us. I told her the point of it was to close that gap.” Michel continued, “I introduced her to my partner and we went out to dinner. It was a slow start. But the fact is that she became more and more open.” The HGTV host said he has immense support from his mother after coming out. He said, “Now, she’s an advocate for the community and I’m so incredibly proud of her.”
Michel also elaborated on the struggles of being a BLACK Gay man in the south, claiming, “Where we come from, it’s very sheltered and driven by the church. It’s an old guard and old point of view.” He noted that his mother supporting him is extremely significant, saying, “That my mom — where her life was work, church, and home — is now advocating for her gay son, it’s a huge thing for me. I have a lot of pride in that.” And added, “She’s a shining example for parents of gay children.”
Catch Michel in the premiere of 'Luxe For Less' Season 1 as he gives homes a plush makeover all under a budget on December 1, at 9 pm ET/PT on HGTV.
