Netflix's 'Love Alarm' season 2: Release date, plot, cast and everything else about the hit K-drama's 2nd installment
After the resounding success of its first season, fans of Netflix's hit Korean drama 'Love Alarm' are eagerly waiting for a second season. 'Love Alarm' is about a dating app that alerts you when someone within a 10-meter radius is interested in you and the drama that unfolds in the lives of its users.
Netflix's 'Love Alarm' was initially announced as 12-episode series of which just 8 episodes have been aired. Considering 'My First First Love' was also renewed for season 2 after 8 episodes, it is highly likely that 'Love Alarm' will return for season 2 especially after the cliffhanger ending of season 1.
Here’s what we know about season 2:
Release Date:
Though the ending of season 1 did set up a new installment, Netflix is yet to announce whether season 2 will be happening. We'll be bringing you the release date for the season as soon as it becomes available.
Recap:
Based on the popular webtoon of the same name by Chon Kye-young, 'Love Alarm' is a South Korean series that features a dating app that can tell the user if someone less than 10 meters away is attracted to them. Although the app initially attracts a large following, it soon begins to wreak havoc in the lives of its users who begin yearning for the days of simpler romance.
The show focuses on three teenagers Kim Jojo (Kim So-hyun), Hye-young (Jung Ga-ram) and Sun-oh (Song Kang). Jojo's relationship with Sun-oh begins when she is already in a relationship with someone else. They share their first kiss with no romantic feelings for each other, just out of curiosity.
Sun-oh wants to understand why his best friend Hye-yeong would like someone like Jojo while Jojo is simply curious about this new student in her school who seems to know her. Of course, her boyfriend Il-sik (Shin Seung-ho) eventually finds out the truth and we learn that her relationship in the past was purely convenient, not just for her but for Il-sik as well. The two blindly trust the app to tell them the truth about each other's feelings and you can imagine how much trouble that faith gets them into.
Plot:
Towards the end of season 1, we saw best friends Hye-young and Sun-oh get tangled in a love affair with Jojo. The biggest question that fans of the series will want to see answered in the second season is who Kim Jojo will pick to be her lover.
Though Jojo didn't want to fall in love again after the failure of her relationship with Sun-oh, by the end of the first season she is clearly attracted to Hye-young because of the comfort that he would provide her, versus the exciting thrill that she had felt with Sun-oh.
Despite being told she might never be able to ring Hye-young's 'Love Alarm', he feels that his love would be enough for both of them. Sadly, because of a shield that she had added to her Love Alarm when she went through her phase of heartbreak over Sun-oh, she is unable to now differentiate between her feelings for Hye-young or Sun-oh.
Though she eventually managed to get the shield removed, her app rings with two hearts - one each for Hye-young and Sun-oh - and as the shot zoomed out, the finale came to end. Fans of the show have a lot of questions they would like to see answered when season 2 arrives.
How was Love Alarm created? Who will Kim Jojo choose between Hye-young and Sun-oh? How will her choice affect the relationship of the best friends who have lived through everything harsh and happy that life threw at them? We'll just have to wait and find out.
