LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Brokeback Mountain’ is considered to be one of the most influential movies in the history of cinema and was regarded as a turning point for the advancement of queer cinema into the mainstream. However, a lot of people don’t know that Ang Lee wasn’t the first choice to direct the movie and the film was initially going to be directed by Pedro Almodovar. Even though he didn’t get a chance to tell the story of two male characters falling in love with each other in 2005, Almodovar is set to show the special bond between Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke in the upcoming short movie ‘Strange Way of Life’.

The makers released the first trailer for the upcoming short film that will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and has mesmerized fans by giving them the first look at the special relationship between Hawke and Pascal’s characters.

Pascal and Hawke get 'intimate' with each other

The clip starts with Silva (Pascal) picking up a cowboy hat and riding a horse to what looks like a ranch. He travels across the desert to Bitter Creek to reunite with Sheriff Jake (Hawke). The duo hasn’t seen each other in 25 years and the last time they saw each other, they were working as hired gunmen. However, the purpose of the visit is much more complicated than just a simple reunion. In reality, the Sheriff needed the help of his friend in solving the murder of a woman in town.

As the clip moves forward, we get to know that they are more than friends and have romantic feelings for each other. At one point in the trailer, Hawke’s character is close to kissing Pascal’s neck from behind and getting intimate with him. Apart from intimate sequences, the trailer is filled with action as the duo tries to solve the murder mystery. But it seems things are not going to be easy for both characters when it comes to their relationship.

“You never loved me. You never loved anyone in your life!” says Silva. In response, the Sheriff points a gun at Silva’s face before saying, “Don’t say that!”

The trailer ends with Silva taking care of injured Jake and saying, “Years ago, you asked me what two men could do, living together on a ranch. I'll answer you now.”

Fans trolled the clip for being 'badly edited'

Even though a lot of fans were extremely excited about the short film, there were several who didn’t like the trailer and noted that the clip was edited really badly. One of the users wrote, “This editing is AWFUL I thought it was a random highlight reel.” Another social media user tweeted, “Is this a parody? I understand the concept of the trailer and the way it's shot and edited, but it just looks and sounds off.” Another user wrote, “This trailer is the most chaotically edited thing I’ve ever seen and I’m so confused about what tone this movie's going to have.” Another social media user tweeted, “IDK if it's the way this trailer is cut, the score, or what, but this looks objectively bad.”

“This reminds me of that episode of the last of us… but poorly edited and definitely a rip off of Brokeback Mountain,” wrote another user.
