Creators
The series ‘Locke & Key’ season 3 has been developed by Carlton Cuse, Meredith Averill, and Aron Eli Coleite. The series is based on the comic-book series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez.
Cuse and Averill serve as co-showrunners on the show, which comes from IDW Entertainment. They exec produce Season 3 alongside John Weber for Take 5, Frank Siracusa of Whizbang Films, Kevin Lafferty, Joe Hill, Ted Adams, Chris Ryall and Lydia Antonini for IDW, and Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs for Circle of Confusion.
In an earlier interview with a global media publication in last year, Cuse and Averill opening up on how it was always their intention to wrap up ‘Locke & Key’ within three seasons had said, “Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion. As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use”.
In another interview with a global media outlet in November 2021, opening up on how season three would focus on their bonding as a family, Cuse and Averill explained, “That really bonds them in a way that we've never seen before. I can't say more than that. Part of our challenge, that we happily take on, is that every season, we need to outdo the season before it. It's a challenge, but it's a fun one and I think we've been able to do that”.
Cuse also added, “We had actually already written a good chunk of season 3 before we even started filming season 2. It was actually a really weird thing that I've never experienced in my career, to have written a full season of television that hadn't been made, and we had to go on to writing the next season of television. It gave us a lot of opportunities to recalibrate certain things, as we were going along”.
