Plot

In the original Disney Channel show, Lizzie McGuire was an average, clumsy 13-year old girl trying to find her place in the world. Lizzie, along with her friends Miranda and Gordo navigate life in middle school, dealing with bullies (Kate), crushes (Lizzie's crush on Ethan, Gordo's crush on Lizzie), teenage relationships, annoying little brothers (Lizzie's younger brother Matt), overprotective parents and popularity contests. The signature aspect of the Disney Channel show was the animated Lizzie through whom the viewers could hear Lizzie's thoughts as she dealt with things.

The reboot is set to pick up with Lizzie as an adult millennial in New York, surer of herself, but still learning to live life fully and learn from her mistakes. In an interview with Good Morning America, Duff offered more details about the show. According to her, Lizzie is an apprentice to a top interior designer in New York and is engaged to a chef. The show will begin as Lizzie is on the cusp of turning 30. As in the original series, Lizzie's 13-year old animated self will be featured prominently to let the viewers know Lizzie's thought process.
