Lifetime 'Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story' Review: Love becomes obsession in Michelle Williams starrer
Lifetime's collaboration with Victoria Christopher Murray, or rather their film series based on her 'A Seven Deadly Sins' stories was launched last year, with the first two outings raking in millions of viewers. Serving as the next installment in the series is 'Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story.' Starring Michelle Williams, Antonio Cupo, Tina Knowles-Lawson, and Romeo Miller in key roles, the film, in short, is a tale of affection turning into obsession.
The makers didn't seem to hesitate to put out the core conflict of the story in the trailer but looking back, it just shows their confidence in the execution as 'Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story' packs a punch despite us knowing what it's going to be about for most parts. "Am I nuts? Is he a great catch?" This is what Chastity Jeffries (Williams) wonders after she meets Xavier Collins (Cupo). She even asks Xavier if he's "one of the nice guys" she has "heard tales about?" However, she eventually finds out that the man behind all the niceties is one filled with envy, anger, and dare we say wrath? So, how does Chastity find out about Xavier's other side? Keep on reading to find out!

As the couple grows closer, Chastity introduces Xavier to Roger (Miller), an old friend of hers, and the friendliness and comfort level don't sit well with Xavier. This is where tensions start to rise, eventually leading to Xavier becoming abusive as he begins to accuse her of lying to him among other things. As his behavior turns increasingly violent - or at least seems to head in that direction - Chastity breaks the entire thing to her mother Sarah (Knowles-Lawson), and also keeps Roger in the loop. How she deals with Xavier and if she's able to make it out unharmed forms the rest of the story.
As an overview, 'Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story' falls under the obsessive and harmful partner category and has all the necessary elements required to make such a film, but as we look closer, we see the effort put in by the cast and crew to make it stand out. Speaking of the cast, Michelle Williams shoulders the film for most parts if not all but does it with finesse and grace (when needed). Antonio Cupo plays his part exceedingly well, bringing tension and turmoil to the film. While Romeo Miller does a decent job as the old friend/childhood boyfriend, Tina Knowles-Lawson shines as Sarah, dropping bombs with her dialogs. It's commendable also because this is her first time starring in a feature film.
The Troy Scott directorial doesn't waste any time but that's also because of Richard Blaney and Gregory Smalls' writing. On the technical end, the cinematography stands out the most, with the background score coming in second if you're looking for a ranking.
In all, 'Wrath: A Seven Deadly Sins Story' is a fine addition to Lifetime's Sinful Saga and is worth the watch, staying true to the network's female-focused stories. We also have an update for those interested in or curious about upcoming installments. 'Greed: A Seven Deadly Sins Story', the next part of the saga, is slated to air on Lifetime on April 23, 2022.
