LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+'s new English-French spy drama 'Liaison' is everything that one needs in a TV show. Drama, intensity, blood and chemistry between Vincent Cassel and Eva Green are the wheels that would probably run the show, and make the audience stay to watch them slay the bad guys together. The show's cinematography is prominent, featuring the city of love and the City of London between scenes. Although less is revealed in episode one, it still promises to go through a state of metamorphosis and become something greater by the end.

The story seems washy, as the spy drama genre has been done and dusted way too many times, but the script seems different with a twist of old romance that will help two former spies resolve their unearthed past romance while helping to save their country from cyber terrorists.

The threat of terrorism

The 56-minute Episode 1 introduces you to all the important leads that are going to take the story forward. The episode starts with Samir (Aziz Dyab) working on his computer in a worn-out building in the middle of Damascus, the capital of Syria. It seems like he is a hacker and is working on something that is illegal and allegedly dangerous. Soon after, the perspective shifts to Walid (Marco Horanieh) who is secretly entering the same building, but is followed by people in military uniform, hinting at the fact that the brothers are doing something illegal. When followed, they throw a grenade towards the military men and run away. The French government seems interested to get the brothers aboard, knowing they're intelligent and can help them to contain cyberattacks and sends their secret spy, Gabriel Delage (Vincent Cassel) to rescue them from Syria and get them into France, but due to some difficulties, they run away and get to London with their illegal passports.

Halfway into the first episode, the plot has been revealed and Alison Rowdy (Eva Green) has been introduced properly. The idea that will take us into further episodes is the fact that these two leads will come together to save the city of London, and doing so would flaunt their ineluctable chemistry and inbuilt romance. While there are only two leads, who cross paths because of a possible national threat and their romantic past, it is quite interesting to see how other characters hold the show in the most convoluted way, without them, the plot would fall off like Jenga blocks.

Cyberattacks ft. old romance

The first episode features two cyberattacks that happen in London. So, it is obvious that there would be more, considering the cast doesn't take the first and second attacks seriously. The first attack happens five minutes into Episode 1 when The United Kingdom Home office gets hacked and the terrorists play with metaphors and show Puss in Boots on every computer with the famous nursery rhyme "London Bridge" playing in the background and the animated London Bridge falling down. The second attack is quite interesting and something that hasn't happened in any type of series or movie yet. The attack brings down the city by flooding London by bringing down the Thames Barriers, which protect the city from too much rainfall and high tides. This kind of thing might sound really boring while reading but is quite a stunner in the series.

Episode 1 of 'Liaison' is now available exclusively on Apple TV+.
