'Legacies' Season 2: Why is Malivore sending the monsters after 'son' Landon Kirby?

Viewers would have noticed by now that the monsters coming to Mystic Falls this season have both been after Landon. What could Malivore want with him?

In the first season of 'Legacies' on The CW, we learned about Malivore and how it was created by an ancient witch, werewolf, and a vampire to eliminate the monsters that ended up becoming legends, like dragons, djinns, and phoenixes. In each episode of Season 1, Malivore was sending monsters to retrieve the artifacts that acted as keys to Malivore and let it escape the pit it is currently in. Landon is also one of the many "children" Malivore created to serve as a potential host for it -- with Landon being the first successful "offspring" it created.

We have had two monsters in the three episodes so far, with the first being a cyclops that was initially thought to be just a troll. As the troll headed for Landon who was completely immersed in the loud music playing through his earphones, Hope and Alaric battled the troll in the background, eventually killing it. In last week's episode, the monster was one that hunted werewolves. Though Hope turned into a werewolf in order to distract the monster, it still went after Landon and we saw it dragging Landon, presumably towards Malivore.

Now that Malivore has the three artifacts, and Hope is out of it, Malivore must be trying to continue its mission from the last season -- to be a living, walking being among the humans and what better disguise than another supernatural being who looks human -- the perfect contender being Landon Kirby. After all, that was Malivore's intention in creating so many mud "children" and then Landon and it possibly just needs one of its offsprings to complete the final transformation. Malivore also knows that Hope, in her current state is only a witch and a werewolf and can't really stop it unless she dies and turns into a vampire.

But viewers can count on Hope to defend the boy she loves -- we saw how upset she got when she realized she did not protect Landon by turning into a wolf, and she would be arriving at the same conclusion -- that Malivore is sending monsters after him -- and therefore will be keeping a closer eye on him to save him from the monsters planning on coming their way.

'Legacies' airs on The CW on Thursday nights. The next episode of 'Legacies' will air on November 7.
