'Legacies' season 2 will be loaded with romance, dragons and more of 'The Vampire Diaries' nostalgia, teases Julie Plec
Considering the level of teasing from the cliffhanger that Legacies season 1 ended with, it's no surprise that fans are aching to know what happens in season 2. In season 1, we saw Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) sacrificed herself to protect her boyfriend, Landon, and pretty much everyone else in the Salvatore School for the gifted children, making our number one question being whether Hope is returning or not. Speaking to MEA Worldwide (MEAWW) at the San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Russell has already officiated her comeback, but further, creator Julie Plec, also teased us with details of the plot here and there, giving us quite the insight into what to expect from season 2.
First things first, there is going to be a very Damon Salvatore-esque character in season 2, who will remind fans of the parent show - The Vampire Diaries' (TVD) bad guy turned good character. "The one that we're most excited about is, of course, a new vampire Sebastian, who seems incredibly like Damon Salvatore for lack of a better description: smokey eyes seductive ways sultry soldiery language which in our world, especially with characters like MG, is like not going to fly," Plec teased.
MG or Milton Greasley is one of the main characters on 'Legacies', and further speaking about the dynamics between him and Sebastian, Plec mentioned, "MG is going to keep this vampire honest and it's not necessarily going to be some good friendship between the two of them."
That being said, Sebastian's similarity with Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is not the only thing about season 2 that will give fans some intense TVD nostalgia. "We have a couple of plans that doesn't mean that they come to fruition," Plec teased about the prospect of seeing more vampires akin to the tense ones we saw back in the day, on TVD. "We have plans and we are excited about those plans. So we'll see if can they make it? I think we've really tried to accommodate," she added.
As for the themes that this season is going to be based on, Plec shared: "The launch point for the season is really how do you fill a hole that you don't know the source of. When you feel lost when you feel isolated when you feel alone, but you can't put your finger on why what does it do that? What do you do to find your own peace, to find your own happiness, which I think is a universal thing that we all go through? When you feel like something's not right and you'd take sort of small to extreme measures to fill that hole whether it be in bad ways or in new ways."
And some of the ways involved in this season involve a lot of romance, Plec teased. "This season we're really doubling on the romantic stuff. Not necessarily all happy either," Plec noted. "There's going to be some unexpected breakups, unexpected new relationships, new crushes. There's going to be a lot of stuff that happens. Somebody trying to get the person that they love and realizing that that person was not meant to be there, somebody losing someone they love and realizing that they have to let them go - we're having a lot of drama this season."
Drama, and cameos, and dragons too if Plec is to be believed. "We are planning a little bit of the greatest hits cameo over the course of the season. We might see our Dragon again early on, there is definitely an opportunity for these monsters in our story to occasionally be seen, but how why or when we will never tell!" Plec signed off on that teasing note, so let's just cross our fingers and hope to see all of the crazy, mystical magic when 'Legacies' returns with season 2, this October 10, only on The CW.
