'Legacies' may have had the best episode of Season 2 with throwbacks, easter eggs referred in Episode 6 and fans are loving it!
This week's episode of 'Legacies' was a treat for fans, old and new. Not only did the episode feature many references to characters from the original shows like 'The Vampire Diaries' and 'The Originals.' The episode also referred to many fan theories.
Ever since it was announced that Mystic Falls will be getting a new sheriff, fans have been wondering what had happened to the previous sheriff and TVD's token human, Matt Donovan. Well, fans can relax now. Matt is alive and well and is now the Mayor of Mystic Falls!
Meanwhile, the episode also featured Freya's return as Josie visited her in New Orleans. Freya mentions her wife (Keelin from 'The Originals') and her son whom she has named after Klaus. But there are more! When Josie is working with Freya, she looks to a wall of framed photos featuring characters from 'The Originals. We see Jackson (Hayley's werewolf husband), Davina Claire (Kol's wife and former pain-in-Klaus's-ass), Camille, and Joshua. We did not see Hayley or Klaus, but hey, let's hold out hope. We also got a very nice Hope-Freya reunion.
Then, of course, there were all the tidbits that were revealed as Hope and Lizzie confessed truths to each other so that the Croatoan would leave them alone. Lizzie admits she thinks Hope is cool and Hope reveals that she used to have a crush on Josie when she was 14 years old for a week - giving fans the much-needed confirmation that she is bisexual and that there is still hope for "Hosie" (Hope+Josie) - though Lizzie tells her that the two of them is "never happening." Fans are already theorizing their potential plotline, with one fan tweeting, "So this is how it’s gonna go down... Landon’s gonna choose Hope, who’s going to turn him down bc she can’t bear to hurt Josie. Then Josie and Hope are going to get close until they realize those crushes they had are still there, and we get one EPIC Hosie love story. #Legacies."
When Hope and Rafael work together to catch the Croatoan, Rafael tries to confess his crush on her, saying that he knows there must be a "dozen guys and a couple of girls" who are interested in her. This is something fans have been talking about ever since the announcement of new characters, Maya and Ethan, who are both interested in Hope - in addition to Landon, Josie, and Rafael from season 1.
Meanwhile, as Lizzie "babysits" Landon to protect him from the Croatoan, she asks him about Ewoks from 'Star Wars' to distract him. When they have two monsters to deal with, Landon says they will do what's done in the sci-fi genre and get the monsters to fight each other, referencing 'Alien vs. Predator' and 'Godzilla vs. Kong' - the plan does not work though as the zombie and the Croatoan completely ignore each other.
Another part where the writers riffed on fans is when Landon asks why everyone assumes he has super-strength, when "phoenixes don't have super-strength." Ever since the viewers found out that Landon is a phoenix - meaning he comes back to life every time he dies - fans have also been wondering whether he will be part of any other supernatural being and wondering whether Landon might have more powers.
One fan tweeted, "Okay but like.. tonight’s episode was so good. Like, we got a little of almost every ship, everyone remembers, Matt’s mayor, Hope’s not straight, Mikaelson reunion, softie Sebastian, Hawkins siblings, etc. It was good. #legacies," and another added, "we really won in this episode, I'm sobbing. -hopes bisexuality confirmed - hizzie growing - everyone's memories coming back - Freya and hope reuniting #Legacies."
Of course, we also learn that the mysterious red-hooded figure sent the zombie after MG - this is something we will only see in the next episode which will air on December 5th - and we can't wait to find out why. Additionally, we got to see Sebastian's softer side as we learn why he was desiccated and who his former "great love" was - the witch named Cassandra, whom Lizzie reminds him of - and in the process, learn that Sebastian might actually be a decent guy.
'Legacies' airs on The CW on Thursday nights. The next episode will air on December 5th.
