'Land of Women' Episode 3: Gala's real father may be hiding in plain sight
Contains spoilers and speculations for 'Land of Women' Episode 3
BARCELONA, SPAIN: 'Land of Women' Episode 3 has premiered on Apple TV+, and it appears that the mystery surrounding Gala's (Eva Longoria) father may finally come to light.
From the first episode, it appeared that Gala's real father could be Andreu (Pep Anton Muñoz), given Julia's (Carmen Maura) past relationship with him during their youth.
In 'Land of Women' Episode 3, Julia, believing Andreu to be Gala’s biological father, approaches him intending to blackmail him for money. However, it was revealed that Andreu cannot be Gala’s father because he is sterile.
Gala also accused her mother of sleeping with everyone in La Muga, which complicated her search to determine Gala's actual father.
Who is Gala's real father?
In her youth, Julia had sexual relationships with many men and eventually became pregnant. Fearing the judgment of the people in La Muga and the prospect of her baby being given to a nun, she fled to the United States.
She started a new life there and found happiness. In her old age, she lived in a nursing home with her Spanish friends.
However, everything changed when Fred (James Purefoy), Gala's husband, took a loan from a criminal organization and abandoned them. Gala was forced to flee to La Muga to protect her daughter and mother.
When Julia returned to La Muga, she faced hostility from the women while the men welcomed her return happily.
In 'Land of Women' Episode 1, during a moment when Julia jumps into the river, she experiences a flashback to her younger days, where she is seen enjoying the company of a man in the water.
This glimpse into her past suggested a time when Julia was carefree and possibly involved in various romantic relationships.
It seems Gala's real father could be anyone from La Muga, hidden in plain sight. Julia initially believed Andreu could be Gala's father, and upon discovering he wasn't, she began reflecting on her past relationships with other men in La Muga.
In 'Land of Women' Episode 3, in the middle of the night, Julia wakes up thinking about a man with whom she had a past sexual relationship.
As it turns out, the man turns out to be the same local priest who greeted her in both 'Land of Women' Episodes 1 and 3, despite her having ignored him.
Her shocked awakening hints at the possibility that the local priest could indeed be Gala's father. In Episode 1, his face lit up when he first saw Julia, suggesting he had feelings for her.
However, Julia always viewed him as a passing acquaintance, not someone worthy of love.
Gala's biological father may be lurking in La Muga
Even though the episode suggested that the local priest could be Gala's biological father, it seems more likely that her real father is hiding somewhere in La Muga.
Julia had multiple sexual partners in La Muga, and it's possible that Gala's father could be someone from one of these casual relationships.
She may not remember because she was carefree at the time, and it's not possible to recall every man she had a sexual relationship with.
There's another possibility that Andreu is not sterile, and Mariona (Gloria Muñoz) lies to save her marriage because she couldn't imagine her sister could sleep with her husband.
Julia had a brief relationship with Andreu, the same man who appeared in her dreams when she jumped into the water. Viewers witnessed young Andreu and young Julia together having fun underwater.
This suggests that he might be the one who fathered her child, but Julia left La Muga before he had the chance to share his feelings, and he ended up marrying Mariona.
