The blockbuster reality TV program ‘Sister Wives’ is filled with intriguing characters and complex storylines. For the uninitiated, ‘Sister Wives’ tells the story of Kody Brown and his entire family. The polygamist family includes Kody, his four wives (Meri, Janelle, Christine and Robyn), and their 18 children. From outside, they look like one big happy family. But inside, the family has a lot going on.

Brown and his four wives have stated they participated in the show to make the public more aware of polygamist families and to combat societal prejudices. Kody has always believed that his polygamist marriage and arrangement is “legal” because he is legally married to just one woman (Robyn), while the other marriages (to Meri, Christina, and Janelle) are “spiritual unions.”

The show has given the viewers many amazing sequences and intimate moments between the couples. However, Kody’s relationship with Christine has been really interesting. So, let us take a look at Kody’s relationship with Christine to know a bit deeper about the duo.

1990-1994: First meeting and First Date of Kody and Christine

Kody and Christine met for the first time in 1990 when he was involved in a youth wilderness trek. That was the time when she got to know him and his first wife Meri. Even after knowing that he is married, she took the decision to take her friendship with Kody to the next level by pursuing a relationship.

Christine, on many occasions, has shared that she asked her dad before she decided to marry Kody. The duo went on a date for the first in 1994 on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. Kody proposed to her on that day and they officially started their journey as a couple.

1994: Kody and Christine become a “spiritual” couple

The couple wanted to have different marriage ideas. Kody wanted to prolong the engagement while Christine wanted to tie the knot right away. In Robyn’s book, Kody says that Christine was adamant about getting married quickly and did not want to wait. He says: “She insisted on setting a wedding date as quickly as possible. She believed that a long courtship would be inappropriate and unfair on her new sister wives. She didn’t want to be running around with a married man.”

Christine spiritually married Kody Brown on March 25, 1994, just six weeks after he proposed and became his third wife, after Meri and Janelle. While appearing on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show', Christine noted that she wanted to have a family and not just a man.

"I never wanted to just be married to a man. I honestly wanted sister wives more than a husband. I wanted the whole family. I didn't just want Kody," she said. However, the marriage day did not go well for Christine and her special day was ruined due to some reasons. In the book, he admitted that he acted “too quickly” on the marriage scene with Christine because he already had two wives at home and his second wife Janelle was pregnant.

She was heartbroken by Kody’s attitude and called him “morose,” adding, “I was shaken when Kody showed up at our wedding with that look on his face. He was morose.”

An Awkward Honeymoon

Kody and Christine’s marriage was not normal, but their Honeymoon was even more awkward. In the book, Christine said that she was annoyed with the fact that Kody did not “plan” the honeymoon and felt “devastated” after knowing that her husband hadn’t put any effort into organizing a romantic getaway for the newly-wed couple.

“Watching him drive with that look on his face made me unbearably sad. I never doubted that Kody was the man of my dreams, but I began to worry that I’d married him too soon,” Christine wrote in the book. They eventually worked on themselves and started to make their relationship better by sharing things.

1995: Couple welcomes their first child

In March 1995, the couple became parents to a beautiful baby girl named Aspyn. She was raised in Lehi, Utah, until the age of 17. After that, she and her whole family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Aspyn graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2019 and became a student teacher after studying Education. Currently, she is a member of Alpha Xi Delta.

1995-2010: The family got bigger and bigger

Kody and Christine’s relationship was blossoming and they were ready to expand their family. The duo went on to have five more children after her — daughters Mykelti Ann, Gwendlyn, Ysabel Paige, and Truely Grace and son Paedon Rex.
