Katy Perry ‘When I'm Gone': Singer 'ruined her career’ with low-budget MV, say trolls
Who can forget Katy Perry’s fierce Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show in 2015 or her powerful set at ESPN’s College GameDay set back in 2014. Pulling off a similar stunt, the acclaimed crooner premiered the music video of her recently released single ‘When I’m Gone’ during the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 10.
The ‘Teenage Dream’ hitmaker joined hands with the renowned Swedish DJ Alesso for her song that was first teased in November 2021. Hashtags like ‘When I’m Gone’ and #KattyPerryWIG’ quickly grabbed the top spots on the trending list as trolls flooded Twitter with their reactions. However, a majority of social media users brutally trolled the 37-year-old songstress’ futuristic video over low budget and cheap production.

Katy Perry premieres new visuals for 'When I'm Gone'
Katy Perry, who enjoys a massive fan following on Instagram with close to 150 million followers, shared the new visual on the photo-sharing app. She captioned the post asking her loyal fans to tag her after they learn the choreography. “The W.I.G. fun ain’t over just yet! go to the link in my bio for a chat with me and @alesso about #WHENIMGONE right before the @youtube premiere at 8:00p PT (and tag me in all ur videos after u learn that choreo i kno u will),” said Katy.
In the chorus, Katy Perry sings “When I'm gone, I'm never really gone/ You think you're movin' on/ But it won't be for long, you'll see/ When I'm gone, I'm never really gone/ You think you're movin' on/ But no one's gonna feel like, feel like.” The visuals of the new music video feature the award-winning singer in multiple outfits at different spots but fails to showcase the futuristic concept. Whilst speaking about her new track with Alesso during a chat, Katy Perry asserted, “Wigs are definitely going to be snatched” adding, “Alesso brought me this song a year ago. This video is cool because it is a little futuristic…’Black Mirror’-esque”, as reported by ET Canada.
‘This song ruined her career’
Social media users while slamming the fresh visuals said, “We won’t be streaming” as another posted, “Not y'all saying that Katy Perry's When I'm Gone MV is having a Rain On Me moment/low budget Rain On Me MV as if that song's MV was the first to have a choreography and a dancing in the water scene.” One replied, “It def screams more budget and better prod… but anyways, we need a remix!!!”
The next one shared, “This looks like till the world ends by Britney Spears choreo.” A troll tweeted, “This song ruined her career... and we're celebrating.” One slammed Katy’s dancing skills saying, “She’s so stiff im crying.” Whereas, another troll added, “Yes. We love to see a low budget MV. Nothing new, nothing to be surprised.” And, one social media user concluded, “Imagine thinking that a person who is sitting at home scratching their butt knows more about music and promotion than the same Katy Perry who has been in this for 14 years.”
