Have you ever wondered if you've got a doppelganger somewhere out there in the world? The more you think about it, the more fascinating the subject can become.

There are a ton of memes out there where netizens have paired famous people with historical figures and there's even a documentary on Netflix that features three men that scarily appear like triplets, aptly titled 'Three Identical Strangers'.

A subject of confusion for many fans over the years has been the likeness of pop icon Katy Perry and actress Zooey Deschanel, but in a new music video by Perry, the pair have already acknowledged it in good spirits and turned it into a light-hearted joke.

Katy Perry dropped the official video for her 'Smile' track 'Not the End of the World' on December 21 and fans can't get enough of how she and featured guest Zooey Deschanel look similar. In the video directed by female duo Similar But Different, Deschanel, 40, is accidentally abducted by aliens that were searching for Perry, who is off innocently walking her baby daughter.

After she fails to convince the extraterrestrials that she is in fact not Perry, Deschanel plays along and dresses up in the singer's iconic costumes and wigs. Towards the end of the clip, Deschanel saves the world by pulling the plug on the world's internet and celebrates by performing the song to the enthusiastic aliens.

Fans were quick to hop onto Twitter to share their love for the video and its humor. As one fan calls it, "Katy Perry & Zooey Deschanel: The Great Conjunction."

"I love this haha....finallyyy," says a fan while another jokes, "bruh i thought this was actually zoey and realized it was actually zoey."

One fan says, "The only thing more satisfying than Miley Cyrus' remix with Stevie Nicks rn is seeing Katy Perry drop a video ft. Zooey Deschanel where they acknowledge their likeness as doppelgangers."

"A part of me wanted to believe that @katyperry & @ZooeyDeschanel are the same person."

"Actually it's so good. The references from katy's iconic career is best part of music video. She just want to remind us WHO SHE WAS and WHO SHE IS. also just remember she is new mother and still trying to give us everything. Such a QUEEN , an ICON, A LEGEND," added another fan.

Meanwhile, many other fans have felt 'Not the End of the World' was too lighthearted and too far a sidestep from her often tethered "badassery" persona in songs like 'Dark Horse' or 'Roar'.
