‘Not a one-time thing’: Katie Holmes praises Suri Cruise's vocal talent, reveals plans for singing career
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the ‘Dawson’s Creek’ alum Katie Holmes opened up on how she did not have to search that hard when it came to featuring a perfect musical voice who could croon the cover of ‘Blue Moon’ flawlessly, which is played in the opening credits of her recently released film ‘Alone Together.’
She finally spilled the beans on how her 16-year-old teenage daughter Suri Cruise has officially debuted as a singer with the COVID era romantic comedy film ‘Alone Together’, which Holmes has written, directed, and acted in, as the main lead as well. The film has been released on Roku a day back on July 29, 2022, and is also currently playing in the theatres.

Opening up on her daughter’s singing skills and also revealing the story of how this unique mother-daughter collaboration came about, Holmes added, “I always want the highest level of talent. So I asked her! She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general: its like, 'This is what I think we all want — go do your thing.”
Holmes gave a teaser of how her daughter’s singing career will not be a one-time thing. She said, “She actually did sing in 'Rare Objects', which is the film we did last fall.” The actress and filmmaker talked about her forthcoming third full-length feature film, which is a period drama piece based on the 2016 bestseller by Kathleen Tessaro.
Giving an explanation for not expecting a Suri Cruise arena tour anytime soon, Holmes responded, “Other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school.”
Speaking about full circle moments, not many people might be aware of this but ‘Alone Together’ is marking Katie Holme’s 25 glorious years in Hollywood since her feature film debut in Ang Lee's ‘The Ice Storm’ which was released back in 1997. The future ‘Batman Begins’ superstar was only 19 years old when she bagged her first small and impactful role as Tobey Maguire's high school crush in the critically acclaimed drama film. Giving her reaction to the same movie years later, Holmes says she can see how that earliest and most enriching experience with Lee shaped her own creative evolution into a filmmaker.
Giving an insight into the same, Holmes quipped, “That shoot was so exciting for me — it was my first job. When I was there, I didn't really understand what was happening, but in looking at the film many times after, Ang's ability to capture worlds is so incredible. I think that he's such a poet in the way that he shoots a scene, and the dialogue he uses and how that tells the story in a very simple way. It's all about finding the simplest way to get your story across.”
‘Alone Together’ stars Katie Holmes, Jim Sturgess, and Derek Luke in leading roles.
