‘Julie and the Phantoms’ Season 2: Release date, plot, cast and all you need to know about the Netflix musical dramedy
'Julie and the Phantoms', a teen comedy and musical drama debuted its first season on September 10, 2020. The series is an American adaptation of the Brazillian television series titled 'Julie e os Fantasmas' gained a lot of popularity with its first season, with many anticipating a Season 2. While there were sources that claimed there would be a season two, many fans have been waiting on the renewal of the show. The series even features in the top 10 in the United States, the Netherlands, Australia, and Canada - even reaching the top 5 in the US.
Release date
As of now, there is no official release date for Season 2 of 'Julie and the Phantoms'. ProductionWeekly and TheCinemaSpot have both reported that a Season 2 is in "active development" but there has been no official release date for the season by Netflix as of yet.
Plot
For Season 1, here is the official synopsis as per Netflix. "High schooler Julie (Madison Reyes) lost her passion for music after her mom died last year. But when the ghosts of three dreamy musicians (Charlie Gillespie, Owen Patrick Joyner, Jeremy Shada) from 1995 suddenly appear in her mom’s old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit beginning to reawaken, and she's inspired to start singing and writing songs again. As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.
From Emmy and DGA Award-winning director and choreographer Kenny Ortega (High School Musical, Descendants) and choreographer Paul Becker (Descendants, Mirror Mirror) comes a fresh and exciting new musical series about embracing life's ups and downs, following your dreams, and discovering the power of your own voice."
Spoilers ahead for Season 2
For Season 2, Kenny Ortega said, "We’re hoping that the world will join us, first of all. we have some big plans for season two, to go even further into our stories, and even further into our music. We hope to maybe even take this on the road, and tour Julie and the Phantoms as a live musical experience.” It was also teased that fans will hopefully find out if the Phantoms are actually ghosts or not, saying, "that gets answered very early on in the next season."
Cheyenne Jackson who plays the role of Caleb Covington, the ghost that owns the Hollywood Ghost Club in the first season of the series explained how he is excited to see where his character will go. If you remember he had possessed Nick (Sacha Carlson) in the first season! In an interview with ET, Jackson said, "I think that’s going to be the fun thing, if Season 2 does happen, is the backstory and what is his obsession with this band. Why this band? Does he have a specific thing with one of them or all three? Those are the fun questions I hope we get to answer. He must have a personal connection with one of them. I just can’t figure out any other reason why he would be so resigned to it’s all about Sunset Curve." Executive producer Kenny Ortega also wants to see the bond between Julie and Like grow as he said that their connected will grow much bigger should the show return for Season 2.
In short, the series follows a young girl named Julie who loves music with a passion. She then meets a three-man boy band of phantoms who have been dead for twenty-five years, and help her navigate her life while she helps them become the band that they missed out on. Hopefully, more plot details on Season 2 become public, because it seems as though fans can't wait any longer.
