NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Controversial Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene was backed by Joy Behar and other 'The View' panelists after she claimed to have been "attacked" at a restaurant by a mother and her adult son on Monday, February 27. Greene spoke up about the incident on Twitter, calling it "completely out of control."

"I was attacked in a restaurant tonight by an insane women and screamed at by her adult son," Greene, 48, wrote on Twitter. "They had no respect for the restaurant or the staff or the other people dining or people like me who simply have different political views." The representative from Georgia added, "They are self righteous, insane, and completely out of control. I was sitting at my table, working with my staff, and never even noticed these people until they turned into demons." Greene asserted that people respected one another regardless of their differing opinions, but it has changed over time. She concluded her tweet by writing, "Our country is gone." The women of 'The View' were moved by Greene's tragic experience after learning about it on Tuesday, February 28.

Joy Behar called 'embarrassment' for saying Ohio citizens to blame for spill as they voted for Trump

'I think you have to protect the most despised among us'

Behar, 80, stated, "I have to say, I'm on Marjorie's side for this one because I don't believe that anybody should be going up to any of us — anybody in public — and harassing us." Behar was advised on the show to keep in mind Greene's history of criticizing President Joe Biden.

"She does this, and now it's been done to her," Behar stated. "And you know, I have to say that I think it's deplorable that anybody would do anything like that, including her! And the person who did that to her." Co-host Sunny Hostin sympathized with Greene's predicament but said she needed more information about the alleged altercation to put things in perspective. The 45-year-old host Sara Haines agreed with Behar as she stated, "This woman is aggressive, and has her own problems with civility, but to protect civility, I think you have to protect the most despised among us. So we have to draw the line at doing this sort of thing, so I do tend to agree with what you're saying."

Haines further added that "if there's a silver lining" to the entire incident, Greene has been given a taste of her own medicine and she will keep this in mind for future contacts. The panel appeared to be largely in agreement that Greene may benefit from the experience, except host Alyssa Farah Griffin, 33, who said, "I don’t expect for her to."

'You can't be shocked when this stuff happens'

Internet users seemed to hold opposing views regarding the incident as they discussed them on Twitter. One person who agreed with half of the statement made by Greene wrote, "Nobody should be attacked. Ever. But back to you. Your lack of self awareness is stunning. You should be drug tested."

Questioning whether Greene would acknowledge Behar's compassion, one person wrote, "True, but do you think MTG would have been as understanding if it happened to a Democrat? Something tells me no, but I'd love to see it happen. Hell, I doubt she'll even thank Joy for her empathy."

One person who feels Greene shouldn't be shocked by the February 27 incident wrote, "I think that it is truly terrible this happened (although I am sure you weren't attacked physically). Ppl should not act this way. Unfortunately though, this is the world you've helped create w/the divisive narrative you've had. You can't be shocked when this stuff happens."

"The same thing just happened to Nancy Pelosi... everyone needs to calm down. However, one should remember that the energy we put is the energy we attract. You are the same person that harassed the kid after the mass shooting and heckled a US President will in the Chambers - karma," a fourth person wrote.
