MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Joy Behar, co-host of 'The View,' slammed the citizens of East Palestine, Ohio, saying, "That's who you voted for," while accusing former President Donald Trump of the horrific train accident. Behar pointed at the camera and stated, "I don’t know why they would ever vote for him, somebody who, by the way, he placed someone with deep ties to the chemical industry in charge of the EPA's chemical safety office. That's who you voted for in that district — Donald Trump, who reduces all safety," as per Daily Mail. The audience was appalled when they heard Behar's comments suggesting that victims of the Ohio toxic train crash had it coming to them for voting for Donald Trump

Behar urged the people of East Palestine to "look past the photo ops" and consider "who is doing the job here" in reference to Trump's Wednesday visit. The co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines asserted that for the East Palestine community, "showing up" is a major concern. At the end of the segment, Sunny Hostin, a co-host, said that Trump was to blame, with Behar commenting, "It's his fault, and then he shows up," reported Daily Mail.

What did Joy Behar say on 'The View'?

The controversial remark was made after a heated exchange in which Republicans criticized Pete Buttigieg, the Transportation Secretary, for handling the situation. Behar remarked on the district after Alyssa Farah-Griffin noted that Norfolk-Southern generously contributes to both parties and said that central Ohio is "Trump country."

The February 3 incident resulted in the derailment of 38 cars, 11 of which were transporting toxic chemicals. After that, locals reported feeling sick and seeing dying fish and other wildlife. On Thursday, engineers on board the disastrous East Ohio toxic train said they had made desperate attempts to stop the train after learning that a wheel bearing was 254 degrees over its normal temperature. As the train sped into East Palestine, Ohio, the crew tried to slow it down, but their attempts were unsuccessful, and the outcome was a deadly collision.

According to a preliminary assessment released on Thursday, February 23, by the National Transportation Safety Board, an engineer attempted to put the breaks on the runaway train, but it was too late. Over three weeks after the incident, the shocking report was made public as the embattled Buttigieg paid a visit to the scene.

'Behar is an embarrassment'

Behar's remark sparked outrage among social media users. The Internet has been flooded with comments slamming Behar and the talk show 'The View.' One social media user commented, "So, can we say she deserves it when vinyl chloride is raining down on the east coast and contaminating her sushi?" While another user said, "Behar is an embarrassment, why is she still on the air?" One more user commented saying, "Joy is gonna be real unhappy when she gets what she deserves, that’s for sure." "And Joy Behar will get what she deserves when she answers to Almighty God," commented another social media user.

What did Donald Trump do on his visit to East Palestine?

The damaging occurrence was one of several train derailments that have recently affected the US Heartland. On Wednesday, the former president traveled to East Palestine, Ohio, which is still dealing with the fallout from a train derailment earlier this month that resulted in a significant spill of toxic chemicals. The visit by the former president, who informed the people of East Palestine that they had been "betrayed" by President Biden's administration, overshadowed Buttigieg's eventual appearance.

Trump addressed the journalists, local officials, and first responders who had assembled at the fire station of the town, saying, "You are not forgotten. We stand with you. We pray for you. And we will stand with you and your fight to help ensure the accountability that you deserve." Thousands of gallons of cleaning materials and more than a dozen pallets of the "Trump Spring Water" that bears his name were donated to the neighborhood by Trump. He also visited with local politicians and community people. Trump added, "The community has shown America's tough and resilient heart. And that's what it is. This is really America right here. We're standing in America," as per Daily Mail.
