LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jamie Lee Curtis has confessed that she refers to her brand-new golden Oscars statuette using the pronouns they/them. Curtis has received praise from Twitter users for honoring her transgender daughter, calling her a "trailblazer" for doing so.

Curtis won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 'Everything, Everywhere, All at Once' on Sunday, March 12, at the 95th Academy Awards, making her the first member of her family to win an Oscar. Since then, Curtis has declared that, in honor of her daughter Ruby Guest, she will refer to her Oscar using the pronouns they/them. On Tuesday, March 14, Curtis came on Today show following her Oscars victory and was questioned by anchor Savannah Guthrie if "she named her," referring to the Oscars statue. "I'm in support of my daughter Ruby. I'm having them be a they/them," Jamie responded while her eyes started to tear up.

'You are an icon and a trailblazer'

Curtis stated, "I'm going to just call them 'them.' They/them, and they are doing great, they're settling in, and I just, in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I'd have this couple days, and I'm very moved by the whole thing."

On Twitter, several people have voiced their opinions about Curtis using the pronouns they/them to refer to her Oscar. One person wrote, "Very very happy for Jamie Lee! This was such a great interview with you all and Them!!" Another person wrote, "PROTECT JAMIE LEE CURTIS AT ALL COSTS!"

A third individual wrote, "You are an icon and a trailblazer. Recognizing women to not be afraid of your age and celebrate who you are. Your support for transgenders and so many other social issues is amazing Your performance in this movie totally deserves the Oscar!"

One person wrote, "That's cute but why is she giving them pronouns in the first place??" to which another person responded, "I think its a homage to her child, a way of showing and spreading her support."

'It's speaking a new language'

Guest revealed to their family that she was transgender in the year 2020. The Oscar winner talked candidly about supporting Guest and adjusting to using they/them pronouns as per People. Curtis stated, "It's speaking a new language. It's learning new terminology and words. I am new at it."

Curtis added, "I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I'm going to blow it, I'm going to make mistakes. I would like to try to avoid making big mistakes... You slow your speech down a little. You become a little more mindful about what you're saying. How you're saying it."

"You still mess up, I've messed up today twice. We're human. But if one person reads this, sees a picture of Ruby and me and says, 'I feel free to say this is who I am,' then it's worth it," Curtis concluded.
