"I have a trans daughter. There are threats against her life just [for] her existence as a human being," she revealed. "There are people that want to annihilate her and people like her. The level of hatred ... [It's] as if we haven't learned from fascism, [as if] we haven't learned what the result of that is: The extermination of human beings. That is terrifying."
She continued, addressing others with the message, "So Jamie Lee Curtis is scared, and you should be too. And Jamie Lee Curtis has a voice, and she's trying to use it. And you should too."
"And that's how we change things. We think about them, we learn about them and then we use our voices to bring attention to them and fight against them." she added.
Jamie Curtin Lee and Christopher Guest adopted Ruby after they got married in December 1984. Ruby Guest came out as a trans to her parents in 2020.
Ruby's story
Ruby Guest opened up to PEOPLE about the mental struggles she had to face to come out to her parnets. "It was scary – Just the sheer fact of telling them something about me they didn't know," Ruby said.
But she said she didn't worry about how Jamie or her husband would react to the news as her parents were supportive of her her entire life. "It was intimidating – but I wasn't worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life," Ruby said. "Like, people will still remember me for who I was, but I haven't changed that. They finally get to see who I've always been, you know, inside, but now I finally get to show it on the outside," she told the outlet.
Eventually Jamie revealed how she and her husband Christopher felt when their son came out as a trans. "Have watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby,"Jamie told AARP
Jamie went on to say her transition caused her to let go of old concepts such as the notion that gender is unchangeable, and said that life had been undergoing "constant metamorphosis" lately.
She then gave credit to her daughter for teaching her a lot of things about the transgender community. Ruby Guest married her partner Kynthia in a colorful outdoor ceremony held in their family backyard officiated by Jamie in May 2022.
