Now that 'Troll 2' has stomped its way onto Netflix following its December 1 debut, the franchise's growing fanbase has only one question: "Is a third movie on the horizon?" As of now, Netflix hasn't locked in or announced a greenlight for 'Troll 3', but the sequel's final moments make it impossible not to speculate. In true creature-feature fashion, the filmmakers slipped in a sly, ominous stinger that keeps the door cracked open for future chaos. After the sequel wraps up its main story and the credits begin their slow crawl, the film drops a brief but eyebrow-raising extra scene.

According to FandomWire, Professor Møller holds a secure phone line and calmly tells an unseen military official, "I have great news, General. The specimen I was able to save has developed." He then turns toward a reinforced glass container, inside which a tiny troll, alive and growing, wriggles in the shadows. The message is unmistakable: even though the titanic Mega Troll was defeated, a surviving fragment of troll DNA has not only endured but evolved. It's not a guarantee of a sequel, of course, but it is a classic horror-franchise breadcrumb.

Instead of tying off loose ends, 'Troll 2' intentionally widens the mythology, hinting that the world has far more troll secrets lurking beneath its mountains and forests. The post-credits reveal essentially rewrites the assumption that humanity is safe from the species' wrath. Even if the public believes the trolls were wiped out after the events of the first film, the survival of this specimen suggests otherwise. There's also the lingering thread of Beautiful, the troll whom Nora protected at the end of the film. His quiet life among humans signals an uneasy peace, but one that feels fragile, almost temporary.

Whether outside forces threaten that balance or hidden troll factions emerge, the story is ripe for an escalation that could propel a potential third installment. While Netflix hasn't stepped forward with an official announcement, the strongest hint yet comes from director Roar Uthaug ('Tomb Raider,' 'The Wave') himself. The filmmaker admitted in an interview with GamesRadar that he hadn't originally intended to build a franchise, but the possibilities started swirling in his mind while he was editing the first movie. And despite keeping his cards close, he has acknowledged, with a deliberate grin, that he already has a few directions in mind for a third film.

Uthaug also told TechRadar that he doesn't see any ceiling on how expansive the 'Trollverse' could become. In his words, "I don't think there's any limits to how big the 'Trollverse' can get." The idea of introducing more trolls, or even exploring troll societies and family structures, appears to genuinely excite him. For now, fans will have to wait for Netflix or Uthaug to make things official. But with a mysterious ending, a surviving troll infant, and a director who clearly hasn't run out of ideas, the franchise is far from done.
