Live-action 'Tomb Raider' series starring Sophie Turner adds another key cast member
Get ready to bring those artefacts out! Starting on January 19, 2026, production on the upcoming live-action 'Tomb Raider' series will kick off at Amazon Prime Video. While there have been two big-screen adaptations of the popular video game series, starring Angelina Jolie in the 2001 film and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 film, the upcoming series would mark Lara Croft's small-screen debut. And as per a Variety report, young British actor Martin Bobb-Semple has joined the ensemble cast in a pivotal role.
The upcoming 'Tomb Raider' series has already assembled a pool of considerable talent. Primetime Emmy Award winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge, recognized as one of the best scribes in the business, will lead the project as creator, writer, and executive producer. She is joined by co-showrunner Chad Hodge as well as director and executive producer Jonathan van Tulleken. Sophie Turner, of 'Game of Thrones' fame, has been signed to play Lara Croft. Although the plot and character details have been kept under wraps by Amazon, Dark Horizons believes that Bobb-Semple's role in the upcoming show will be a recurring one, and one that shines the spotlight on him as an important character alongside Croft.
Bobb-Semple has already established an illustrious reputation for himself within the short span of his acting career. He made his stage debut at London's West End at an early age before going on to attend the prestigious Identity School of Acting. Thereafter, it was only a matter of time before he bagged his first TV appearance. A few of his recently lauded works include 'All American: Homecoming' on The CW, 'Free Reign' on Netflix, and Peacock's 'One Of Us Is Lying'.
Talking about the new 'Tomb Raider' series, Waller-Bridge has been developing it since 2023. Once the series was officially sanctioned by the streaming platform in 2024, the 'Fleabag' star expressed her excitement at finally being able to work on her passion project. As per Cinema Express, Waller-Bridge explained, "It's not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artefacts out—Croft is coming."
In a similar vein, Turner acknowledged the scope of her leading role when she commented, "She's such an iconic character who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They're massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can't wait for you all to see what we have cooking."
