Trigger warning - rape

The Internet thought that the scandal surrounding former K-pop idol and EXO member, Kris Wu had ended after the Chinese police arrested him on the suspicion of rape. Back in July 2021, Du Meizhu claimed that she was an ex-girlfriend of Kris Wu and stated that he had raped her and 30 other girls out of which some were minors. Two alleged victims posted cryptic messages on social media while an LA teen claimed she too was drugged and raped like Du Meizhu.

At first, Kris Wu stated that he was innocent and if he had indeed done these acts he would turn himself in. Du Meizhu had then shared that she had two underaged victims and evidence that she would reveal to the court. After the C-pop idol was arrested, there were no more updates. But now recordings of Du Meizhu have surfaced online that have made fans hopeful while netizens wonder if Kris Wu is actually innocent.

Meizhu's friends hope to expose her lies

On March 6, an alleged recording of Du Meizhu went viral on Weibo. Two of her friends, who had spoken against Kris Wu went live on March 2, claimed that Du Meizhu was lying and that they had evidence to prove it. Li En and Liu Meili confessed that Meizhu was a heavy drinker and never blacked out when she was with Kris Wu who then supposedly raped her. They also shared that she did not have depression which she had said was the aftermath of her relationship with Kris. They released an audio clip of her and added that Meizhu also had never been in contact with any alleged victim and that she was doing it only to blackmail and extort money from him.

In the audio, Meizhu says, “He definitely didn’t sleep with any underaged girls.” She is then heard saying that she had asked for 8 million Yuan and was hoping that he was panicking on how to get that money. On March 3, Meizhu stated that the voice was hers but it was edited. Li En again came live and played the whole audio from her phone and showed the phone screen as she claimed that it wasn’t edited. Other fans also dug up the police report and pointed out that Kris Wu was not arrested because of Meizhu or any other alleged victim but because of public opinion.

On March 8, the two girls shared that their accounts had been banned and the views on their posts had been deleted alluding to some larger conspiracy. They then released a second recording of Meizhu. In it, she is heard saying that Kris did not have the money and they were trying to call each other’s bluff. She also said that it was a gamble since “We don’t have any particular real evidence in our hands. We just scare him. So if we really go to court, we will not be able to win.” In response to the recording, Meizhu came live and said that those who wanted could go to the police and that she found the whole thing “boring.”
