Season 3 of 'Shrinking' might have concluded on Apple TV+, but the series isn't winding down anytime soon. Way ahead of the third season's January premiere, Apple TV+ greenlit Season 4 to capitalize on the show's current popularity. The third season, nevertheless, presented a watershed moment in the narrative, with Jason Segel's Jimmy finally letting go of his attachment to his late wife. On the other hand, Jimmy's father figure, Paul, played by Harrison Ford, left California for good and relocated to his home in Connecticut. The show was originally planned to have a three-season arc, thus making everyone wonder about his inclusion in Season 4.

Since Paul's departure came at such a pivotal point in the narrative, fans of the show are perhaps right to be apprehensive about Ford's departure. However, the show's creator, Bill Lawrence, recently cleared up the confusion and even shared a few exclusive insights about what to expect from the upcoming fourth installment of the comedy. Lawrence took to his X profile and posted several tweets revealing interesting details about the show's future.

Ahead of the third season's finale, Lawrence has posted on April 4, "Season finale and end of this three-season story next week. Hope you dig it. (Excited to start a completely new story next year. Feels scary/risky/fun)," He was then asked about the ultimate fate of Ford's character. He replied, "Same EXACT cast next year, he’s not going anywhere. Not an accident that Alice goes to college in Connecticut." Since the third season's finale, Lawrence has been quite open about the upcoming fourth season, marking a new chapter in the overall narrative of 'Shrinking.'

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lawrence had hinted at the fact that both Alice and Paul will be in Connecticut by the time the fourth season catches up with them, "It’s not an accident that Alice goes to school at Wesleyan University and that in the end of the finale, she's going by to have dinner at Paul’s house, time passage changes a lot of things — as to where people are, where they’re living and how things have progressed. So, yes, Harrison’s back on the show." 'Shrinking' is available exclusively on Apple TV+.

While attending a Paley Fest event in Los Angeles, Lawrence also spoke about how Season 4 couldn't possibly rely on the same old template of Jimmy grieving the loss of his late wife. He added, "If the fourth season of this show came on and Jimmy was like, ‘I’ve been thinking about it. I’m still super sad about my wife,’ I’d be like, ‘Turn the TV off.’ You can’t do that again, so we’re hoping people feel it’s an incredibly optimistic and happy ending."
