Much to fans' delight, Apple TV's beloved show 'Shrinking' will be returning for an unexpected fourth season. However, the question remains: will one of its main stars return? Harrison Ford has been the beating heart of the show since its inception, but with the way Season 3 is shaping up, it seems like this installment might be his last, according to Decider. No official announcement has been made yet, and considering Ford's love for the show, creatives may devise a way to keep the legendary actor around. Two more episodes of the acclaimed series are yet to be released on the streaming service, and they may shed more light on Ford's Dr. Paul Rhoades' journey ahead. New episodes drop every Wednesday on Apple TV.

The show focuses on Dr. Paul Rhoades' experience with Parkinson's, and with his condition declining, many speculate that the end of the road may be near for him. One Redditor even predicted that the beloved character may breathe his last by the end of Season 3, which is scheduled to air on April 8, 2026. In the last nine episodes, Harrison's character is seen planning to retire and move to Connecticut, where his daughter Meg (Lily Rabe) resides. Given that all other main characters are based in California, this could be another exit strategy devised by the creators for the character.

Fans have also spotted ways in which the character can stay in the show despite the big change. Another character named Alice Laird is seen gearing up to go to college in Connecticut. The show could focus on the guidance Dr. Rhoades provides to Laird during this transition, as he could help her navigate the complicated relationship she shares with her father, Jimmy Laird. This could be Dr. Rhoades' link to some of the main characters. No matter what happens, it is clear that Ford has a lot of love for the show. The filming for Season 3 wrapped up in July 2025. “You guys are the best. The very, very best, at what you do and how you do it. And how you make people feel is just f--king amazing. I love this place. I love working with you guys. I hope we can all get back here and do it again,” Ford shared back then.

The speech indicates that the legendary actor is more than willing to come back to the show. However, during a recent Apple press day event, Ford expressed, “If it was all over here, that would be sufficient for me… This has been very special for me, and it really nurtures me, and it makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance.” One of the show's creators, Bill Lawrence, always claimed that the show had a set three-season arc. Therefore, not only Dr. Rhoades, but many characters' arcs may also move towards closure. Hence, the fourth season could be a new chapter for many, as the show ventures into unplanned territory.
