'Shrinking' Season 3 trailer brings in laughs as hit dramedy looks to better previous instalment
Apple TV dropped the trailer for 'Shrinking' Season 3, and the general expectation is that it betters the second installment. The dramedy, created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein, will premiere the third season on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The new season will premiere with a one-hour episode and will be a weekly drop until April 8, 2026.
Season 3's cast includes Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley. Also in the mix are Goldstein, Damon Wayans Jr, Wendie Malick, and Cobie Smulders, who guest-starred in the second season and are in recurring roles for season three. Jeff Daniels and Michael J Fox are new entrants.
The series follows Segel's Jimmy Laird, a widowed therapist breaching ethical and professional boundaries by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. The second season premiered in October 2024. In the same month, the streamer renewed the show for an 11-episode third season.
In his previous interview with Variety, Segel spoke of learning from Harrison Ford. "Harrison Ford gives this speech in the finale about, ‘I’m not sure how much longer I get to do this,’ because his character is suffering from Parkinson’s," Segel said.
"It’s the best acting I’ve ever seen, certainly in person, sitting there watching him give this monologue. It was sort of the bullseye of my ethos about what art is, which is somebody performing an act of self-exploration for an audience. Everything he’s saying in that speech is a 1:1 ratio for what I’m sure you’re thinking about at 83 years old, at the end of any career. ‘I don’t know how much longer I get to do this, but what an honor it is to get to do it with all of you. How much this career has meant to me, and all that. You’re watching him just say these words, and we’re all crying disproportionate to the occasion — like it’s not totally right for the scene — but it works."
The second season recorded a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, besting season 1's 91%. The consensus read, "Settling into a hangout comedy that's content to luxuriate in these lovable characters' company, Shrinking's appeal only continues to grow in this big-hearted second season." Only time will tell if the third run will be just as impressive.
