The Power of Gohan

This is not a recent question that has been asked by the fans. The question of the limits of Gohan's potential has been on the cards since the character in question has been introduced. Ever since he was a child, Gohan used to exhibit his strength through an enormous amount of powers, which he was able to produce whenever he got to his extremely furious state. Gohan was also notably the first to the Super Saiyan 2 stage. This made Goku entrust Gohan in defeating Cell, which the latter does. Though having a natural potential, Gohen does not want a place in the world of fighters. As a half-Saiyan, Gohan was seen in multiple instances preferring to be an intellect rather than a fighter. He only prefers to fight to protect his loved ones. But this does not mean Gohan shies away entirely from martial arts. In fact, Gohan is pretty close with his mentor Piccolo.

However, Gohan's lack of consistency in terms of his training has caused some real consequences in the series, most notably in the Majin Buu Saga. During the Majin Buu Saga, Gohan neglected his training and when the task of saving the universe fell into his hands, Gohan was unable to save it. It is to be noted that Gohan was awakened to his full potential by Supreme Kai, and it was Goku and Vegeta, who saved the universe at that time.

Stronger than Goku?

However, Piccolo's opinion holds a stronger place as he was Gohan's mentor, who also helped him to get into shape. And as a keen observant and a master, we can not easily dismiss the opinion of Piccolo. In Chapter #91, Piccolo is seen taking care of Pan, the daughter of Gohan and Videl, as the parents are busy with their work. And currently, Piccolo is seen training the young Pan in martial arts, as the latter shows so much potential, just like her predecessors. And it is after one of these training sessions that Pan asks the question whether it is true that her father Gohan could be stronger than her grandfather Goku to which Piccolo answers "maybe not right now." On the other hand, Goku has a recent power-up as well. We should wait for the story arc to progress to find it out.
