BERLIN, GERMANY: Netflix's latest series, 'Crime Scene Berlin: Nightlife Killer', explores a string of murders in Berlin, Germany.

The streaming giant provides insight into the murders of three gay men through a three-part documentary, providing a platform for those directly involved or who witnessed the events to share their narratives.

Dirk P was responsible for the deaths of three gay men, leaving Berlin's LGBTQ+ community in shock in 2012.

Who was 'The Darkroom Murderer' Dirk P?

In 2012, Dirk P targeted gay men in Berlin's gay bars, luring them before killing them and then taking their credit cards and phones.

Three young men from the queer community in Berlin were tragically murdered by Dirk P, who administered them lethal doses of GHB.

Initially, the unidentified assailant was dubbed 'The Darkroom Murderer' because one of the murders occurred in a dark room of the gay club Grosse Freiheit 114 in Berlin in May 2012. The place was well-known in Berlin's LGBTQ+ community.

The victim was identified as Nicky Miller, and his death marked the beginning of a detailed investigation into the serial killer.

As the investigation progressed, the police began to notice similarities between Nicky's murder and other unsolved cases in Berlin.

Dirk P also killed two other gay men using the same drug, GHB, that he used to murder Nicky.

According to German news agency Tagesspiegel, Dirk P was a trainee teacher at an elementary school in Brandenburg, Germany. He initially trained as a nurse, which gave him knowledge about the lethal effects of liquid ecstasy or GHB.

He knew how to administer doses of GHB without arousing suspicion, likely due to his background in nursing.

Who was Alexander, the first victim of Dirk P?

Dirk P was friends with Alexander, the first victim of his killing spree. When Dirk P discovered that Alexander had created a dating profile on the app, he requested to meet him.

At Alexander's house, Dirk P intentionally gave a lethal dose of GHB to him. This deliberate act of poisoning resulted in Alexander's tragic and untimely death.

Initially, the police believed that Alexander's death occurred due to a drug overdose. However, further investigation revealed that he had been administered a lethal dose of GHB.

Alexander's case came to light after Nicky's murder, as investigators began to uncover a pattern in the killings of gay men.

Nicky's death sparked widespread fear and outrage in Berlin's LGBTQ+ community

On May 5, 2012, a dead body was discovered at Grosse Freiheit 114 in Berlin, Germany. Ambulance was promptly called, and the authorities started the investigation.

They collected physical evidence and conducted interviews with witnesses to piece together the exact sequence of events leading to the death of a gay man.

He was identified as Nicky, who tragically became Dirk P's second victim. He was also given a lethal dose of GHB, similar to Alexander's case.

With no other leads about the suspect at the crime scene, the police traced the missing items taken from Nicky's body. His credit card and phone were missing from the scene.

His death sparked widespread fear and outrage in Berlin's LGBTQ+ community. Some people were also afraid to visit Grosse Freiheit 114 after the brutal murder of Nicky.

Amid the investigation, the authorities discovered that another gay man named Peter had also been given a drug overdose similar to the ones administered to the previous victims.

After Peter's death, police were able to apprehend Dirk P by analyzing Alexander's phone records. Dirk P and Alexander maintained regular contact because they were friends.

Dirk P confessed to his crimes but did not reveal his intention behind the murders. Subsequently, the prosecutors decided to proceed with the court trial.

During the trial, Dirk P was sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes. He never apologized to the families of the victims, showing a lack of remorse for his actions.

However, nine months after the court verdict, Dirk P killed himself in prison.
