Prime Video clearly isn’t done with first love, heartbreak, and teenagers making messy decisions in the rain. If anything, they’re just getting started. After saying goodbye to ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ in September last year, the streaming platform has been sitting with a noticeable gap where its swoony, youth-centered drama once lived. And now, according to Deadline, that empty space might not stay empty for long. The outlet reports that Prime Video is developing a new series based on ‘The Boys of Tommen’, the wildly popular BookTok favorite by author Chloe Walsh.

For anyone who has spent even five minutes scrolling through reader recommendations online, that title probably rings a bell. The books have built a loyal following thanks to their intense romance, heavy themes, and relatable characters. The planned adaptation will reportedly span eight episodes for its first season, with screenwriter Poppy Cogan attached to craft the scripts. The story will draw from the first two novels in the series, ‘Binding 13’ and ‘Keeping 13’, meaning viewers could see a lot packed into a single season. That’s a lot of story to cover. A lot.

Amazon MGM Studios is backing the project, teaming up with Drama Republic, Temple Hill, and wiip to bring the Irish-set love story to life. Production is expected to begin sometime later this year, with a potential release window in 2027. So yes, fans will need patience. Walsh’s book series currently includes six novels, and nothing beyond the initial instalment has been officially locked in. But if Season 1 connects with audiences, there’s plenty of material waiting in the wings. The first two books focus on Johnny Kavanagh and Shannon Lynch. Johnny is a star rugby player at Tommen College in Ireland.

His athletic future hangs in the balance due to an injury that could end his dreams. Meanwhile, Shannon is a quiet, introverted student who transfers to the same school while dealing with a painful home life she keeps hidden from the outside world. Their connection doesn’t arrive in a neat, rom-com package. It’s complicated. It’s messy in ways that readers have found impossible to ignore. Prime Video’s interest in the series isn’t surprising when you look at the platform’s track record with young adult adaptations. ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’, based on Jenny Han’s novels, became one of the service’s defining hits.

Even after the series wrapped, the story didn’t end. A finale film is in development, keeping the relationship between Prime Video and romantic book adaptations very much alive. And this isn’t the only BookTok sensation Prime Video has in the works. The platform is also developing ‘Fourth Wing’, the fantasy adaptation based on Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean series. That project brings a more high-concept angle. By contrast, ‘The Boys of Tommen’ will focus on young adults trying to survive school, family pressures, and first love. Casting details remain under wraps for now, leaving fans to speculate about who could step into Johnny and Shannon’s shoes.
